Giddy and impulsive as she was, Evie at least took a moment to look down both ends of the hall. With no one in sight who would rat them out, she joined her fellow Spartan in the closet and secured the door behind her.
Her grin brightening, Evie returned to crossing her arms, and looked over Lysander in turn.
βYou know what, big guy?β Technically she was supposed to be rushing to the range, butβ¦ βMy scheduleβs completely open. Lucky us.β
And just like that, Evieβs disappointed look was overtaken by a grin. Taking his comm, Evie took a minute to put her contact information in before returning the device. βYou know, Iβm not deployed very often. Chances are our free times will match up.β
She should be asleep, but sheβs been firing at the range almost all day. So far she hasnβt missed a shot yet.
moved to push herself into standing. The cold tile floor was not exactly comfortable.
βI mean my face. Itβs too pretty for me to be running into walls like this.β It was partly a joke, but also Evie cared a little too much about her looks for a Spartan. Focusing on any mission-critical objectives came second, especially when she wasnβt deployed.
Setting her hands on the floor, she β

decent candidates: applications are open.β
Oh, that much she knew. Closet meetings werenβt usually scheduled with feelings at the forefront. Still, his comment got her to roll her eyes.
βIβm Evie,β she introduced herself in return. Despite her disappointed disposition she still made a point of sounding friendly. βAnd if you know any β
Bracing herself, Evie expected the otherβs touch to at least irritate the sensitive blemish. Any discomfort ended up being so minimal that she did not react, and so was quick to relax again. βTrust me, Iβll try avoiding it again. I canβt go around banging up one of my most valuable assets.β
βHe could have at least messaged me, then.β Even if him wasting her time was unavoidable, she would have at least liked to have wasted her time anywhere but on a chair in a cramped closet. Somehow Evieβs pout seemed to worsen. βBut I suppose Iβm expecting too much of him.β

βAbout the same.β And in the same position she had been left in. The red mark on the bridge of her nose had darkened while Artemis was away, and was beginning to its transition into a proper bruise. βMaybe a bit more of a headache now.β
Nothing severe. She was a Spartan, after all.
βAlright.β Evie looked back to Artemis, then moved herself to lean against the wall she had ran into. At least it was not as late as she had thought it was. Of course, that also meant she had emerged from the closet with far more panic and energy than was necessary.
βNone. I fell asleep waiting for somebody who never showed up.β She had no shame. Had things gone more favorably she would have shared that information, too. Her arms crossed over her chest and she sized up Lysander.
βYes please.β With that Evie forced herself to sit up. She rubbed the back of her head, not because she hit it on her way down, but because the embarrassment of her mishap was setting in. Then, folding her hands on her lap, she looked from Artemis to the closet door behind her. βWhat time is it?β
βFine. Sore.β Once on her feet Evie took a moment to straighten out her hoodie and fix her hair. Behind her the storage closet was still open, and seemed in perfect order other than for a tipped chair. βThank you.β
Broken? It didnβt feel broken. Just to be sure, Evie wrinkled her nose just to see if that was enough to worsen the pain. Fortunately, it was not. βFeels like itβs just bruised.β
She ran her right index finger over the bridge over her nose, right where it was marked. βHow bad is it?β
|| Evie may not be the best soldier as far as Spartans go, but at least she can abuse the fact that she is mega pretty
βI just forgot there being a wall there.β Fully pouting, the Beta reached a hand up and took his. With a quiet grunt she pulled herself to her feet.
Evieβs hair was a mess β though that was not a result of her miscalculation β and her clothes were in no better shape. Her gray hoodie was wrinkled and creased, as were the black jeans she wore.
What was a result of her blunder was a bit of redness on the bridge of her nose. βJust a bit.β
Flat on her back, staring up at the ceiling with a pained expression, she seemed at least a little less than okay. βWho the fuck put a wall there?β
Color her in pain.
Following smacking her nose on the wall she fell over onto her back.
Bursting out of a supply closet and crashing into the adjacent wall.

Intoxicated as she may be, at least she was true to her word. With that she relaxed, and stopped resisting Kajaβs assistance.
βSay please.β If there had been anything in reach for Evie to grab onto and keep herself anchored, she would been holding on for dear life.
βBut the floorβs so nice,β she slurred disappointedly. No effort was made in helping Kaja as she was lifted. It was as though Evie was willing herself to be magnetized to the floor.
