nigel farage tweet: The Bank of England is replacing Winston Churchill with a picture of a beaver on our bank notes. This is the definition of woke.
i, for one, am delighted that we finally have a definition of βwokeβ
Text: Sir, The imprecise test in the Courts and Tribunals Bill, by which the government intends to remove the right to jury trial from all those who βwould be likely to receive a sentence of imprisonment or detention of more than three years for the offence or offences (taken together)β will itself take up valuable court time. First, in deciding this question, the court must hear representations from the prosecution, the defendant and any co-defendant and have regard to any relevant sentencing guidelines. It must then give a reasoned ruling (which cannot be appealed). More significantly, if at any point during the trial there is any change in either the defendants to be tried, or the offences for which they are to be tried, or there is βnew evidence that would or might affectβ whether the original test had been met, the court must revisit it and in an appropriate case order trial by jury: the original judge-only trial will be aborted and a second trial will take place. This will have serious consequences, not only by causing further delay and increasing court time and costs, but also in human terms for witnesses and defendants. No doubt, evidence given in the first trial will be used to test the evidence in the second. None of these implications appears to have been considered. I went for farthing because of the wren, which the coin was sometimes known as.
As far as I know the groat either had a national coat of arms, or a cross or a 4 on the reverse.
I don't think it was ever animal related.
Who needs Churchill or a bloody beaver on a crisp Β£5 note?π€
I have been designing some alternatives which I think youβll agree are infinitely more superior. π
This is what you get if you've had David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as Prime Minster, and Philip Hammond, Gavin Williamson and Grant Shapps as Defence Secretary.
All working hard to run down UK's armed services to leave a force so small it can no longer be effective in any theatre.
Daily reminder that we'd be at war right now if Farage or Badenoch were PM.
βWhen he was handed the items in a Vilnius park in July 2024 the timers inside were already counting down. Over the next two days, three of the parcels would go up in flames, one just before it was loaded onto a cargo plane for London. Any later and the consequences could have been disastrous.β
How the Russian intelligence services, with an okay from Putin, decided to use DHL parcel deliveries to bomb warehouses all across Europe. An essential read on Russia's idea of hybrid warfare against Europe. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Only 2,300 main applicant visa applications for skilled worker/health and care visas in February. I'd expect about 10-15% of them to get rejected, so even fewer will be granted. The B2 English language test seems to be having a larger than expected effect, but also sponsors are losing their license.
The natural gas price has spiked even more
Although perspective is necessary.
Don't forget: you gave cover to Israel to commit further genocide in Lebanon.
This very straight news piece buried deep within the FT never uses words like corruption or insider dealing but every detail is quietly devastating. Why is the FT virtually alone in the UK media in covering this important story?
After a series of fatal strikes involving civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, Congress directed the Pentagon to reduce civilian casualties as part of a 2019 law. During the Biden administration, the Defense Department created the Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response initiative. The civilian mitigation teams β cut by 90% by Hegseth β work with military commanders on target planning, and making sure that targets are actually military sites. The teams help come up with "no strike" lists, including religious and cultural sites and schools
I knew that the Department of War shot a missile into a school & killed 175 civilians, mostly children.
This is learned today:
Secretary of War Hegseth had cut the teams assigned to prevent such tragedies by 90%.

Amazing the cutting edge stories you can produce if you sack all your journalists
It all seems very Corbyn at Glastonbury.
Ooh Zack Polanski!
This is what Β£5 notes looked like for over 150 years, the majority of the time that we have had bank notes.
this is the most useful short-form video i've ever seen

We'd be doing a lot more for democracy if we tackled the route by which Mad Liz Truss became Prime Minister.
The PM actually holds an almost unlimited amount of power.
Unlike the tiny number of hereditary peers.
Bring back the farthing, that's what I say.
DPP loses appeal of the decision to throw out case against Kneecapβs Liam Γg Γ hAnnaidh.
The DPP threw a lot at this appeal.
The poor little brave warrior.
Let Mummy kiss it better.
My humble submission to the new Bank of England with concepts for the new bank notes to please both sides.
Under normal conditions this would be the end of the Trump presidency.

Trump would just inject it all the more.

To paraphrase:
The US began the war with the aim of installing a more pragmatic leadership which might end the war.
Chris Murphy: "I Just came from a two hour, closed door classified briefing on the war. It just confirmed to me it's totally incoherent. We are not gonna be able to achieve any of our stated objectives ... this is a disaster of epic proportions, a 10 day debacle"
Will she use the "I was shooting at a domestic terrorist" defence?
It's maddening because his fundamental stupidity is obvious in quite literally every public statement he makes. He doesn't understand half the words he reads off teleprompters, evinces no familiarity with very basic concepts, and regularly asserts completely inane nonsense.
