Agreed. I see them every day and it worries me. Talking to some of them, however, has made me realise that schools probably aren’t aware of some of the reasons why children are opting out. And why their attempts to re-integrate often don’t work.

Since I’ve retired, I’ve become aware of the number of children not in school. When I ask ‘why’, the reasons are very diverse. But it’s hit me that there is a surprisingly high number of children just not in school - and they need teaching. I’m not sure AI is the solution for a million reasons.
Could have told you that 20 years ago. The fundamental problem is that summative exams are sampling student learning. You can’t ‘plug gaps’. Trying to do so is plain stupid.
I think it is a difficult problem. I doubt AI can be an effective substitute for human tuition and you need skills to use AI which need to be learned. But - I’m becoming very aware that the traditional school environment simply isn’t suitable for a lot of children. There has to be a solution.
Not - ‘Haddock Reserves’? Or ‘Halibut Restaurant’?
Woo! Thats a relief!
Listening to Gov Newsom’s press conference. Boy - is he so much more articulate and impressive than Trump.
The NHS is marvellous. I’ve never really had much in the way of ill-health. But, today, I’ve been to see my GP. It’s so brilliant to be able to get treatment, have tests etc - and there’s nothing to pay!
Well - I think it’s funny. 😂😂😂
School meetings, right?

I am now the official holder of a Blue Light Card. Useful - it got me a massive discount off my new phone.

Brilliant analysis by Robert Peston 👇
Progress by one of our Y7 students on the Thinking Reading programme. He’s made up a gap between his chronological age and his reading age of 4 years within less than 3 months. Amazing!

If a German court had stuck to its guns in 1924, after the Munich Putsch, Hitler’s political career would have been over. Let’s hope the French courts have some guts.
Theme of the moment - fluency. I’m more convinced than ever that students need to become fluent in whatever they’re learning if they are to truly master it.
