A few come to mind:

- vibrating cafeteria tables
- penny hockey using gaps in the table corners
- gravity-defying soft serve ice cream servings
- arcade machines that sometimes work
- age-old internal conflict between running to grab a coffee vs. holding up the loading line in Tsawwassen

Let's hope this is an indication that the BC Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund will also be renewed!

So sorry to hear that Rufus Guitar Shop is closing after more than 40 years. The number of music stores in Greater Vancouver is dwindling, yet they are irreplaceable in providing repairs, expertise, and a place to sit and try things. A reminder to support local businesses wherever possible!

Nooooo! I noticed it disappeared from my local grocery store about a month ago and was hoping it was just a shortage.

Just remember that means listening and asking before making grand announcements with the leader of a neighbouring province.

Opinion: A 'Build Canada' plan for the 21st (not 20th) century Opinion: As a clean energy powerhouse thanks to renewable energy and critical minerals, we could create hundreds of thousands of jobs

It is not too late for Carney to pivot, and redirect federal support from the industries of yesterday to the industries of tomorrow.

Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, and a little bit of Lythrum salicaria. An oligohaline site.

Glad it offered you some tranquility. Let me know if you're ever up here and I can introduce you to the estuary :) White Sturgeon fishing is catch and release in the Fraser, and quite the experience! We rarely see them in person, apart from an occasional breach or mortality.

There is no greater remedy for a desk-bound, stir-crazy me than a walk in the Fraser Estuary. Even on a January evening during an atmospheric river.

Baffling! And also baffling that they largely ignore this platform, and in so doing further solidify their support for X. At least show that you support the alternatives.

Agreed! I'd also add that having foundational identification skills is essential, particularly for professionals using iNat in their respective fields. The AI algorithm is not a substitute for professional competency.

BreakTimer Save yourself from RSI and eye-strain

In an effort to make my desk time more healthy, I have come across this free, intuitive, and extremely helpful little desktop app. Would highly recommend if you need something to remind you to take a break now and then!

It is in the mouth of the largest and most productive estuary in BC, a critical stopover point for birds along the pacific flyway, and supports the largest salmon runs of any river in BC. Getting the recent RBT2 project approved was a drawn out and contentious process, and rightfully so.

In addition to those who are advocating for status-quo risk mitigation (dikes, pump stations), others point to the fact that this flood-prone area was SemΓ‘:th Xhotsa (Sumas Lake) historically. Evidence suggests it may be cheaper to restore the lake than to upgrade infrastructure.

This framing also suggests that being opposed to a project is inherently negative. I would suggest the opposite is possible.

Then start by consulting and listening to the Indigenous groups and citizens most affected/threatened by the decision, not by making an MOU with the government of a neighbouring province.

I have the same sentiment for Carney’s cuts to long-standing conservation funds. The act of cutting these programs may look good in the short term, but it is immensely challenging to regain that momentum again. And I’d argue less cross-effective. Funding stability is paramount.

MOU Problems While intended to heal the rift in Canadian unity, the agreement between federal and Alberta provincial governments risks leaving the country even more divided

Pulled together some of my thoughts on AB - CAN agreement here. Simply put, this agreement is likely to deepen divides in the country, not heal them.

To quote @stewartprest.ca:

β€œI think the effects on unity are some of the biggest problems with the agreement. It legitimates "Alberta" as an aggrieved party, distinct from other provinces, while treating BC and its peoples to be as issues to be managed, rather than partners in the federation.”

I did, but the fallout of this extends far beyond a simple pipeline, including an erosion of democratic values.

This is a complete betrayal for British Columbians, and those who voted for a Liberal platform that in no way indicated this archaic, regressive direction. You have lost my vote.
