I vaguely remember that being said, and it def makes sense for the era. 4e honestly did a lot of stuff I like and still use, and the 4e DMG is still one of the best actual sources of advice for the practicals of DMing a game, regardless of system

Oh yeah, for clarity I meant like, every single class felt same, not martials specifically. It felt very like a tabletop MMO in that regard

Yeah, 4th was pretty good about putting martials on even footing with casters but sadly that also led everything to feeling really samey (at least, that's my memory of reading the rules for the comparatively short period of time I played it)

Also high level baddies are all fucking huge and most can fly. I know its got dragons in the name but damn guys come on!!

Man, designing a high level martial-focused enemy for DnD5e is really hard. I can't even find an official example that doesn't rely heavily on spells & magic. Like yeah you can flavor that as dragonball style martial arts but damn it really lays bare the rules systems
