The way I howled at this in the cinema. Extrene specificity in jokes always hits hard for me, but this movie really is fantastic and I feel like it's still very under the radar.
A few of them have talked about it, and I know Adam and others did various things, sometimes just pause and stare at the laughing person until like a vibe change of shame happened, or laugh back at them aggressively and darkly, like draw attention and shame in some way. It's really not great.
In general, most of the recent Emcees have reported a dramatic shift in response to this bit - it used to be that everyone got it, that it was understood as a horror line, but in the current iteration playing since 2021, this issue of taking it as a joke keeps happening. Audiences have changed.
