I most respect a description of characters that paints pictures in the least number of words possible. Just reading something now where every character is getting the same 1) hair color, 2) eye color, 3) clothing, 4) special gritty detail treatment. And it's really pulling me out of it. ππ
I respond with GIFs. All hail the power of pictures! (I wonder if this tendency to GIF is more common among picture book writers... π€) #kidlit ππ
Once upon a time I researched the stories behind the logos of 32 book publishing houses.

Can my #kidlit friends explain this to me. On pages like these in Mother Bruce where the text reads "So he got creative," and "Nothing worked," and the illustration adds context, are the concepts for those images more often conceived by the author or the illustrator? #askwriter #askagent #askeditor
Reading Bartimaeus when I was younger, I never understood why it didn't have the widespread success of Harry Potter. This story helped me realize that my favorite books would not necessarily be the most popular.
(For anyone who has not read it, this series is absolutely fantastic #Kidlit!)

I never questioned it! And then I did, and now I can't unthink these thoughts. Poor little piggy who went to the market. π’
I was today years old when I realized what happened to the Little Piggy when it went to the market. π Nursery rhymes are brutal. #kidlit ππ
Sitting in a coffee shop, chewing my pen, deep in thought... How many chuggas come before the choos? #kidlit #writingcommunity
Finally have a #writing space to call my own. π Now I need your help, #Booksky #writingcommunity! What is the best way to purchase #kidlit and fantasy art directly from artists? If I have favorite artists, or even favorite illustrations, is there a good way to go about ordering large prints?
This was my first #kidlitchat, and I thought it was fantastic. Well done, @bonnieadamson.com and @gregpincus.bsky.social! Will definitely tune back in (so long as the 2yo sticks to our 7-book bedtime contract).
Well this sounds fantastic.

I always thought myself a writer of MG and YA after starting off my book life with HP. Still love those genres, but also really fell in love with PBs over the past two years of reading with my daughter. Julia Donaldson is everything. I was floored by Room on the Broom, The Gruffalo, etc. #kidlitchat
I gotta say it. Harry Potter was it for me. It was my entry point into reading and fantasy and magic, and it came into my life when I needed -- 11 yo, recently moved, friendless, and a great escape. The escape into reading quickly became an escape into similar and then different writing. #kidlitchat
This is an awesome story. Congratulations!
Great response. Warrior Cats also made me think of Redwall, which I read at about the same time -- and it seems I forgot about it until this very moment. Ha. #kidlitchat
I always thought I was a MG and YA writer... until I started reading PBs to my daughter. We started collecting just about everything by Julia Donaldson after we met the witch in Room on the Broom and the mouse in The Gruffalo. #kidlitchat
This is my first #kidlitchat. Took me a minute to realize there's a prompt! Reposting for anyone else who is confused!
This was everything. Thank you so much (for this and everything else) @debbieohi.com!
Here's a short video showing how I use @deck.blue to attend a slow chat like @kidlitchat.bsky.social on Bluesky! More info about Bluesky slow chats (as well as text-based info) at publish.obsidian.md/debbieohi/ho...
Feel free to share anyone who needs it! Looking forward to #kidlitchat tonight. π
Thanks for the very warm welcome! (Spellbinders looks and sounds fantastic, BTW!)
Ah! Very good to see you on here, Lyn! It's been so long! Hope you're well.
Appreciate the help!
Hey Brian, just curious if you need to be in the group/starter pack I order to participate? Still not sure how things work on BlueSky. (On that note, is #Kidlitchat something everyone can participate in, or is it more of something to tune into?)... Thanks for any help!
