Bridget Phillipson and Lucy Powell
Bridget Phillipson v Lucy Powell for Labour Party Deputy Leader... Their personal statements sent to party members are bland and contentless. Does anyone know where they stand on Trans issues?
www.theguardian.com/politics/202... [Streeting] added: βI donβt think the government can afford to bury our heads in the sand about the fact that trans people in our country today feel less safe than they did 10 years ago.β And whose fault is that, Wes?
Hereβs the joyous version

As an infertile woman, I found JK Rowlingβs comment about βfaulty equipmentβ absolutely disgusting
JK Moulding does not give a sh*t about women and is clearly no βfeministβ. Itβs blatantly obvious her only interest is brain-rotting transphobia! π£

Five of these seven identical cubicles are labelled "WC" and gender neutral as you can see in the photo, for the other two (which are identical inside), one has a male toilet sign and one a female sign. So the TERFs don't have to sit cross-legged through their delicious meal.
gender neutral toilet
a coridoor with five gender neutral toilets, one labelled make and one labelled female
Huge shout out to Nord Liverpool, a restaurant I visited recently, for their gender-diversity positive toilet labelling. For the toilets they have seven single-person IDENTICALcubicles and one disabled one.
βThe fight for trans safety is a fight for everyoneβs safety. The campaign against trans people is not about anyoneβs safety. It is exactly what it looks like: an organised effort to drive a tiny minority from public life, back into the closet.β
- Freddy McConnell
Does anyone know much about an organisation called "Queer Beyond Belief" DM me if you prefer. Thanks
Hmm. Where have I seen that in the New York Times before...
I've just finished your book and I was surprised by the total omission of intersex people. Not only do they break nearly all the boxes, they are far from homogeneous even within that medical category.
www.theguardian.com/society/2025... an article in The Guardian on gender without a single terf being quoted. Thanks to the trans orgs speaking out for equality.
Both are based on a powerful majority demonising a vulnerable "minority" using unsubstantiated claims of potential violence/injury and a justification based on illiterate understandings of basic biology.
I don't think I've seen anyone draw parallels between the insistence by TERFs that trans women should be excluded from single sex spaces that match their gender and apartheid where black people were forced to use racially segregated facilities etc.
If you are a cis person using a single-sex space or service and the provider of that space questions your birth sex , would you feel that your privacy had been invaded?
Repost for βyesβ.
This echoes what was said by some, usually white middle class, lesbians and gay men: don't be flamboyant, don't kiss or hold hands in public etc. In other words, be sure to wrap your closet tight around you when you leave the house. It's called self oppression.
The EHRC's lawyers have conceded its position on single sex toilets is wrong. goodlaw.social/z87e
Massive thank you to @heatherherbert.uk @sarahjanebaker.bsky.social

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, the Conservative leader said there were other things that were βmore insidiousβ, like sharia courts, and that women should be able to wear what they like. But Badenoch added that if people come to her constituency surgery, she asks them to remove face coverings, whether they are balaclavas or burqas. She also said employers should be able to stop their staff wearing burqas if they want to.
Badenoch's lack of joined up thinking. Women can wear what they want unless it's something she disapproves of.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05... Robert Wintemute is Professor of Human Rights Law at Kingβs College London. I wonder what his trans/gender diverse students feel about being taught by someone who believes in two tier human rights. Human rights are indivisible. Trans rights are human rights.
A long time ago a colleague came back to work and told me she'd met a gay couple on holiday and they were "really nice". My immediate thought was that she had been very lucky as many of us get very short tempered when we are patronised. (and where are the really nasty gay couples she usually meets?)
The environment secretary, Steve Reed, has ruled out the idea, saying: βOur intention is to increase access to the countryside, but in a responsible way, not as a free-for-all.β
In opposition, Labour committed to a Scottish-style right to roam, where there would be an assumed right for English people to walk around the countryside. However, the party U-turned after pressure from countryside groups.
www.theguardian.com/environment/... funny how government ministers uncritically follows the Supreme Court when it comes to gender but not when landed gentry are involved.
