As a point of comparison, the US spent $21 billion in FY 2022 to feed billions of breakfasts and lunches to kids in schools across our whole country for an entire year under the universal school meals program that was later discontinued.

Some white plum flowers on a branch
Peaches and plums have started to flower now, hoping today's weather is kind but snow is unfortunately in the forecast again after mid to upper 80s (F) the past couple of days π₯Άπ±
Pretty birds and non-pretty birds all lay delicious eggs!
2-toned daffodil with white outer petals and yellow inner petals growing amongst a whole bunch of others that are out of focus
The 2-toned daffs have now started to bloom as well π±
Nothing is "normal" around here anymore π
Typically we don't get these high temps until later in April, the lows right around freezing are pretty standard this time of year.
Oof stay warm! We got up to 85Β°F/ 29Β°C yesterday, more of the same today, but Thursday supposed to drop back below freezing overnight.
Gone, thank goodness!
They are cute. But then again so are plenty of other animals we eat. We only eat the animals we grow ourselves, with a few exceptions (seafood and giant Costco bags of chicken nuggets).
This is the way
Tired but satisfied. Got to spend a lot of time outside after work today planting seeds and getting the garden beds prepped for the spring. How about yourself?

I love keeping rabbits - relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain (especially when our veggies are growing), provide us with clean, lean protein, and an endless supply of the best fertilizer in the world π±ππ©

Beautiful!

Sorry for the delay, here's the mug in all of its glory β
A white plastic table with seed blocks in black plastic trays on top of it. A young child has tomato seeds in her right hand, palm facing up, while her left hand is carefully placing a seed into the indentation of the soil block.
One of the best perks of working from home is getting some time outside with the children starting seeds together π±
I don't think most people grasp the insane amount of resources that the US allocates to weapons and war machines. The list of better things we could do with the military budget is nearly endless.
We're supposed to get to 85Β°F today but back down to 29Β° on Thursday night. Not quite out of the woods yet but our 2 weeks of spring will be over soon π
Ooh that's a great idea! I worry our goats would destroy it by climbing on it though, they climb on EVERYTHING.
I love having these panels around. Great for using as a trellis, either arched or straight, and for building temporary holding pens for the animals. Just wish they weren't so expensive these days.
Yeah the weather was nice this weekend so the kids wanted to sleep outside, we just haven't taken the tent down yet π
That sounds really good even if yuppy π
I feel like I'm spoiling my kids with how we eat... Smoked mangalitsa ham with potatoes cooked in the fat with fresh goat milk pudding for dessert. Milk and ham both from our backyard.

A trellis made from a livestock panel in an inverted U shape held up with t-posts in a garden bed. The base of the trellis has been watered where the peas have been planted. In the foreground there are some slates being used as stepping stones. A large boxwood is behind the trellis, to the left is an off-white barn. Further in the distance are more unworked garden beds, a fig tree, some crepe myrtles, and a camping tent.

And so it begins... Peas are in the ground π±
Ah yeah, we're able to choose to cover the arborist's fee and add more if we want. Good luck, I hope you can get a load!
My spouse signed up, we waited 2 years and didn't get any, then I signed up and we got a delivery within a week.
Then I read the FAQs and they say they remove delivery sites like every month or something like that, so you have to keep requesting. Frustrating.
Happy Sping!
We actually get to experience winter every once in a while but we'll be in the 90s in May if not sooner...
5 yellow daffodil blooms amongst a dozen or so not quite ready to open, shooting out of some lead litter next to the left of a maple tree trunk. In the background is a gray house with a white metal roof and boxwoods in front obscuring half of the first story windows.
Losing an hour of sleep is slightly offset by waking up to the first daff blooms of the year π±
Same, and while my measles immunity was still fine the mumps and rubella weren't so went ahead and got a new jab!
I hear ya. We planned on doing an equinox camping trip out in the cville area but not sure now.
My spouse filled up the truck for super cheap at BJs in Mechanicsville on Wednesday, they were doing 50 cents off per gallon if you spent $150 or more at the warehouse. I think it ended up being $2.19 or something after discount. Now I don't want to drive anywhere.
