Getting strong déjà vu: you can argue the rights or wrongs of use of US bases in UK indefinitely. It doesn’t change anything. Been going on since at least 1986: hansard.parliament.uk/commons/1986...

Caffeine-fuelled technology, media and telecommunications lawyer. England & Wales solicitor working in-house for b2b division of international telco. Probably ASD/ADHD, but too old now to bother getting formal diagnosis. Was @TMT_Lawyer on X.

Did Rubio really hold a presser outside the Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue?
Who can stand as an MP? To stand as a candidate in a UK Parliamentary General Election you need to be at least 18 years old and be either: a British citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of a commonwealth country who does not require leave to enter or remain in the UK, or has indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Who is disqualified from standing as an MP? Certain groups of people are not allowed to stand, these include: members of the police forces members of the armed forces civil servants and judges people who are subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order in England or Wales or a debt relief restrictions order people who have been adjudged bankrupt in Northern Ireland people who have had their estate sequestrated in Scotland. Wonder how many Commonwealth MPs there are, who Farage will certainly go after under his disenfranchisement plans?
And then we had another cup of tea and then we went home.
Mock up of Telegraph headline: “The great betrayal: How Make fun of Allister Heath became the religion of the metropolitan elite”
Spot on.

Most of Ravilius watercolours are in private collections, so I’d have to time the heist when a favourite is in a gallery, such as when Chalk Paths was lent to Pallant House in Chichester.
Not forgotten, not silent and not majority?
Whilst this may be an appropriate response for an AG of the current USA administration, I don’t recommend it for any LiP (or counsel!) appearing before an overworked judge in a court in E&W.
Not really. That all came with the political integration made possible by QMV, i.e. no UK veto?
Thatcher very pro single market, but regretted QMV expansion in SEA to bring it about. It is possible to be a non-EU member of single market.
Starmer?
On order. It’s by A Sharpe, so how could I not?
So Anna is not @barristersecret.bsky.social , or a massive bluff?
Thinking what I read, and haven’t seen mentioned: George MacDonald’s Flashman series. Patrick O’Brien Aubrey books. Left field, but PG Wodehouse Jeeves. Tom Clancy.
High Fidelity
What I have not heard from any cabinet member is the obvious reflection that the interest in Burnham would be zero if the party believed there was a vision within government with a plan to execute it. Who knows, maybe there is one, just not communicated to us plebs on the ground?
True. Point I am making is can you say “Brexit Paddy” is any less an Irish citizen than any other Irish citizen as defined under 1956 Act, as amended?
Citizenship by descent. 7.—(1) A person is an Irish citizen from birth if at the time of his or her birth either parent was an Irish citizen or would if alive have been an Irish citizen. (2) The fact that the parent from whom a person derives citizenship had not at the time of the person's birth done an act referred to in section 6(2)(a) shall not of itself exclude a person from the operation of subsection (1). (3) Subsection (1) shall not confer Irish citizenship on a person born outside the island of Ireland if the parent through whom he or she derives citizenship was also born outside the island of Ireland unless— (a) that person's birth is registered under section 27, or (b) the parent through whom that person derives citizenship was at the time of that person's birth abroad in the public service: Provided that the Irish citizenship of a person who, after 1 July, 1986, is registered under section 27 shall commence only as on and from the date of such registration. F20[(3A) A person to whom paragraph (b) of subsection (3) applies shall be deemed to have been born F21[in] the island of Ireland for the purposes of that subsection.] F22[(3B) A person born outside the island of Ireland, other than a person to whom subsection (3)(b) applies, who derives citizenship through a parent who— (a) was born in the island of Ireland, and (b) at the time of the person’s birth was abroad in the public service, shall be deemed to have been born in the island of Ireland for the purposes of this section. (3C) Subsection (3B) shall apply to a person born before or after the coming into operation of section 5 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023.] (4) Nothing in this section shall confer Irish citizenship on a person not an Irish citizen immediately before its coming into operation, nor deprive of Irish citizenship a person who immediately before its coming into operation was an Irish citizen.]
As usual with Anglo-Irish matters, it is more complicated. For most of my life, the number of my Ireland born relatives living in England outnumbered the England (foreign) born, but by s7 Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, we are all Irish citizens from birth.
Having routed around for a C60 to get yourself ready to hit « Record. »
Also, for “pub” read “private (public) school.”

Just heard some prof of American politics on BBC Radio 6 claim disclosure delays in Epstein files justified as complicated, given volume of documents.
Dear BBC 6, next time speak to any experienced litigator?
Test cricket tests your technique, temperament, patience, character ....it is the the "real" test. (Many variations of this on the internet.)
So test cricket between Australia and England, with the longest test history, even more so.
Sadly, England’s current team collectively seem to lack all 4?
If Freemasons v Met Police judicial review ever happens, how will we know if any judge hearing the case should be recusing himself?
Have you got 5 minutes?
(When in private practice: do you do pro bono?)
TWIMC: whilst I trained in a City law firm, and later became a partner in one, I denounce any suggestion that I am a “London Lawyer.”
You may call me a lefty lawyer or a human rights lawyer as much as you like. I do not recognise these to be defamatory labels.
As a starter, perhaps, look at the commissioning scroll of military officers appointed by e.g. the Crown (UK) or President (USA). Their “foundation” document. Charged with obeying orders of superiors made according to law. No duty to obey unlawful orders?
Or any pink ball practice. 😬
Not sure what the context is of this post. But personally, I’ll be singing Messiah today (7pm Boxgrove Prior, with Shopwhyke Singers). There is a chorus…

Who’d choose to be an England cricket fan? You have to be born to it.
