ABSOLUTELY!!!
Being creative isn’t a magic cure all but is a huge help in restoring balance mentally. Being productive with colors sure helps me.
Photo of Finnish sweater that I’m knitting. From book Knitted Kalevala. Designer Jenna Kostet. I am using the same earthy colors even though I don’t usually wear green. I will modify neck so it’s not so wide. Otherwise I love it!! Celebrating my Finnish heritage here on the Oregon coast.
I picked up my Finnish sweater again the last few days. Pattern from book Knitted Kalavela. Dale at Coastal Yarn, Cannon Beach is so practical with logical tips.
She said to read through the pattern all the way. And if THAT doesn’t help….
Then she reads it all the way through again but out loud.
And my two adult nephews (in their 20’s) struggle to read cursive. I saw an ad recently on Facebook asking for people who could read cursive on old documents to “ translate” it.
No alligators! 🐊.
Beautiful scenery.
Fits well in the space!
Oh ….and her Golden Retriever, “Riika” a Finnish name, always, ALWAYS poses with Bev’s quilts.
My sister made me a “Race” quilt from a pediatric Jelly Roll that I had. You just sew end to end with the 42 strips and then cut. It’s only supposed to take 2 hours but it took her a couple of days. It will be fun for my great nephews to play on.
Oh! I didn’t realize YOU are Finnish!! What a wonderful surprise.
This reminds me so much of a Finnish children’s book. It’s called “Mr. King”. Beautiful illustrations.
Wonderful photo!
Holy Moley !! Guess it’s time to dig out some pattern books and browse for future projects when your toe knuckle is healed. Ice and rest!
Next quilt.
My sister & I read about
the removal of Harriet Tubman's info from the National Park Service's 'Underground Railroad' webpage. (Has been restored after some protest.) Bev decided to make a Log Cabin quilt that historically signified safe place to rest on trip north. Some of the colors.
Went to a quilt show in Rickreall, Oregon. Wow! Look at close up photo. Those are teeney tiny pieces! Mid Valley Quilt Guild Show.
At a quilt show in Aurora Oregon. Very small town 20 miles south of Portland. Famous for antique shops. And annual quilt show at the Old Aurora Colony Museum. These two quilts were at a show there several years ago. Love these old fashioned patterns and colors.
Thanks so much!! I almost took the kit back the next day. But a friend who works in a quilt & knitting store on the Oregon coast texted me: “Remember things always seem harder before you sit down and really figure them out and then they're dead easy.”
So I feel strong & will take it step by step!
Yup! The building is charming. And they have a super collection of fabric.
They don’t have hardly any Civil War genre fabric but there is always something to get the creative juices flowing. Absolutely love this place.
Feel better soon.
Feel better!
