It was amazing to present my research at King’s College London to researchers from the @kcl_warstudies and representatives from the Cabinet Office and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of His Majesty’s Government bridging the gap between researchers and policy maker’s.
#APSA2025 that’s a wrap! It was great to present my work on Populist Undermining and the Resilience of Electoral Institutions.
By pushing through an amnesty law to secure parliamentary support from separatist parties, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez broke a core norm of Spanish democracy, notes @cristyramirezp.bsky.social.
Treasury bonds are traditionally seen as a safe haven in times of economic turmoil, because they offer investors a guaranteed payment backed by the U.S. government. Instead, investors are selling the assets.
Here's what to know.
Catching up on reading and am over the moon to see my fantastic @kcl-spe.bsky.social PhD student @cristyramirezp.bsky.social quoted in this article on Trump's Panama folly. We're very lucky to have their expertise in our department.

As Trump continues to blast falsehoods about Panama and the Panama Canal it’s important to understand why he is doing it ?
By pushing falsehoods, the Trump administration has manufactured a crisis that appears more performative than substantive. Thus, the following question arises: is this aggressive and unwarranted stance toward Panama merely a distraction from domestic issues blogs.lse.ac.uk/usappblog/20...

Minimal #factcheck #Panama did not hand over the #PanamaCanal to China. A Chinese company manages 2 of the 5 ports at the entrance to the Canal, as do companies of other nationalities. This contract dates back to 1997 when #US still administered the Canal.
Trump at it again talking about the virtues of tariffs.
Two key papers: Diamond-Mirrlees Atkinson-Stiglitz, establish conditions under which tariffs should not be employed and show the income tax is a great tax.

Breaking News: Jimmy Carter has died at 100. A one-term president and peacemaker from Georgia’s farmland, he was beset by crises in office. nyti.ms/49WdF3G
Someone told Trump there is a Canal in Panama and him claiming he is going to take it back it’s known in IR as “mad men” theory

Werning research on dollarization couldn’t have been more timely for Argentina’s electoral campaign. A sector, not only in Argentina but in Latam, believe that the way out of Arg’s problems is just taking monetary control away from politicians. They should look towards Brazil not Panama
Yesterday, Dani Rodrik at CEPR a conference on the Polítical Economy on Populism. He argues that the main driver to the current wave of RWP is basically globalization
