They who would not sacrifice their own souls to save the whole world, are, as it seems to me, illogical in all their inferences, collectively. - CS Peirce

A study of social media content 18-24-year olds see in #Finland, #France and #Romania shows that algorithms overwhelmingly feed them right-wing political content - whether or not the users are interested.

Three country average for right wing content was 58% - in Finland, 67%!

Isotype (picture language) - Wikipedia

Interesting to compare with Otto Neurath - Cobb as a progenitor of design fiction:

Ron Cobb?

.. Too fitting. He saw we'd be living in a *science fiction dystopia* (cf. @bruces.bsky.social)

Thanks for this excellent ref.

Clarity about terraforming Mars can help wake us up to the stark truth that we need to terraform Earth back to habitability

Schiller also wrote Ode to Joy, which became the EU anthem.

The new episteme was carried in the heart of Europe & America (Ode to Joy -> Leaves of Grass), waiting for the empire to fall.

That day is here.

We'll get Beuys' Eurasia, not Putin's.

We'll get Beuys' Americas, not Trump's.

Raoul Duke Jr. - i mean Sam Kriss - just quoted Schiller's 1781 The Robbers (image) to describe the epistemic collapse of the US.

Notice how perfectly it describes Russia's episteme as well: power completely corrupted into nihilism. It could easily be a quote from Surkov's Without Sky.

Taking the side of Europe now is not about believing the EU will continue.

It's about believing a better world-system is just beyond the crash of the current one.

The more history you know, European & otherwise, the more you realise: this is where we are now.

This is already the climate war.

I think Beuys would see this war as distinct from the permawar in the Near East.

I think he would recognise it as the shedding (self-destruction) of pre-EURASIAN powers and mindsets.

While 'Eurasia' is the landmass, 'EURASIA' is Beuys' concept that humans can and will move freely across Eurasia, in a united social system.

His EURASIA, our Gaia.

War showed Beuys that humans are essentially nomadic, and that national borders, iron curtains, and great walls are phantasms.

He went on to pursue a vision of a united Eurasia.

@jmkorhonen.fi don't mind me here, just annotating my above statement re. Beuys' Eurasianism for the record:

Latour said the way to escape Putin's 'war of civilisations' is to recognise it as already the climate war:

The war by which the old fossil-powers end and a new global eco-power begins.

.. but the succeeding system does not need to be credibly described.

It pre-exists in us, just as the fascism is always there when capacity deteriorates.

Right now, the chief use of LLMs is to accelerate the crash of the old system.

After that, LLMs will naturally enable digital socialism.

counterpoint:

The current political economy has lost credibility.

*Every move* those holding power are making, is accelerating the crash of that system & the loss of that power.

The system has devolved to authoritarianism b/c it has no way to renew itself ..
