I’m finding the recent focus by the government and media re the functioning of the criminal justice system (including the use of prison and rehabilitation) a welcome development (even if I don’t always like some of the conclusions).

Few issues leave me as torn as the issue of assisted dying. I agree with the principled arguments for (in certain circumstances people should be able to have assistance in dying) & the practical arguments against (the likely unintended consequences). How are others so certain?
Not only do we have 1/5 of courts not sitting at a time of record backlogs, but for the past three days the Crown Court Digital Case System - the engine on which the whole system runs - has been broken.
