More seriously: this has been a difficult set of years for us (mental health crisis of relative, hospital, etc), and income would be v welcome. I mean it's always welcome but this year esp.
Anyway, cos I am in writer limbo thought I'd jot down some ideas for Mortedant 3. No point starting it, whether there's a 3 depends on how well the first one does.
Pre-order it here, it has it's first blurb!(from the fab @decastell.bsky.social who also has a book out in May, Our Lady of Blades.)
Daily reminder: preorders are love

Gosh I'd love a new book from Simon Jimenez. And Erin Morgenstern !
Summer sons by Lee Mandelo is great.
The spear cuts through water, by Simon Jimenez is wonderful ( long and a bit experimental in the writing)
A book cover for Bodies of Magic by Freya Markse. A deep blue building with a quadrangle, spires and cloisters fills the lower half of the cover with the title text in gold across it. Behind that, the upper background is grey and stormy with a prominent twisting white design that could be a bare tree rising up from the main tower OR an anatomical diagram of the lungs. Centered above the lung-tree are the words DO NO HARM in stark white. Honestly: a complete banger of a cover. Doesn't it make you want to preorder? Yes, yes it does.
BODIES OF MAGIC, out Sept 2026: Grey's Anatomy meets A Deadly Education, a mystery set during the final exam week of a magical medical school. (Or: five queer nerds solve a murder and have some feelings.)
Cover design by Jamie Stafford-Hill.

EXPEDITION 33 !!!!!!
I begged Jenny to write this and am so grateful she did.
Sex scene are craft. They are characterization. They are worldbuilding. They are storytelling.
The fact that we're culturally too uncomfortable with sex to recognize that is not the fault of well written sex scenes!
Jenny is doing such incredible work writing about the work that sex scenes do and I'm so grateful for it. We need more of this, but for reasons covered in the essay, a lot of critics are afraid or ill-equipped to do it.
Anyway, this is excellent
