I read novels, more than is healthy. Mostly SFF, some historical and romance. Will follow authors. True liberalism has never been tried. He/him.

It's always possible that eliminating the income tax is simply her way of explaining her real policy: land value tax

How each senator voted on an effort to rein in Trump’s Iran war powers | CNN Politics Republican senators rejected a war powers resolution on Wednesday that would have required the Trump administration to seek congressional approval before continuing military action against Iran.

The senate held a vote to end the war. Schumer, along with every other democrat save one, voted to end the war. www.cnn.com/2026/03/04/p...

Isn't Anthropic the one who lost a class-action lawsuit for pirating millions of books?

Even if you accept its existence, that show also just takes the idea and constructs a completely original story around it. So you're right again.

California Sues a Children’s Hospital to Maintain Transgender Health Care

www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/u...
When hospitals in California pull that shit, the state sues them. You should try it!

There has never existed at any point the national supermajority necessary to implement abortion rights into the constitution. Amending the constitution is deliberately so difficult as to be basically impossible for anything even slightly controversial.

It fucking sucks that assholes like Newsom talk shit, but even under him California is much, much more supportive of trans rights than almost anywhere else on earth. And the national Democratic caucus is still pushing for trans rights.

The Biden administration was the most pro trans rights government anywhere ever. They started pushing anti-discrimination regulations on day one and never stopped, constantly trying to increase access to medication and allow students to use their facilities.

It's very fun. Gets more and more soap opera energy as it goes on though. If you like it, you'll probably like Mary Robinette Kowal's Lady Astronaut series of books, which I would describe as "For All Mankind, except well written."

They do lean more into political intrigue for the major drama, but the romance is always there, and always good. I guess I probably don't know much about romance as a genre. I mostly read fantasy, sci-fi, and historian fiction, so romance is often just an added bonus for me.

Gillian Bradshaw wrote a ton of historical fiction romances. Most of it is ancient world/late antiquity but she has a couple in the middle ages and early modern period. Not quite what you asked for, but she's really good and I've never seen anyone else recommend her.

The only genuine libertarian in the country, Ilya Somin, once wrote an article arguing that since the constitution doesn't give the federal government the right to restrict migration, the US must have open borders, by law. Would cut down on personnel needed significantly.

It is both far too serious and far too silly at the same time. The brief segments of The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon are fucking perfect though.

Gotta feel for the client here. This colossal dipshit just got a default judgement against them. I'm actually kind of confused why the judge punishes them for the lawyer's mistake.

No masks, no racial profiling, no arresting people in schools or hospitals, agents must identify themselves and use body cameras, agents must get judicial warrants before entering anyone's home. My main worry is enforcement. What happens when ICE just ignores these rules?

Senators Clash Over Immigration Enforcement, Risking a D.H.S. Shutdown

Congressional Democrats are actually using the spending deal from last week as leverage to rein in ICE. Republicans can't threaten to shut down the whole government since the other bills passed. I'd prefer that ICE be abolished, but since that's impossible for now, these demands seem good.

06.02.2026 00:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

This is absurd. The courts need to just start jailing whoever shows up in court to represent ICE, then jail their boss, then their boss, etc.

I haven't been able to figure out what the trash burners think they're accomplishing. Maybe they hope for a mass of masked citizens to violently confront ICE in the streets and defeat them in combat.

Purely as an observer, my impression is that the differences are more tactical than ideological. Will's theory of victory involves those who are willing putting their faces and names out, deliberately drawing publicity, and using public backlash to turn the country against ICE.

Birds raised for foie gras aren't worse treated than any other birds raised for meat. It seems weird to single out this specific food. And I say this as a resident of a state where it is banned.

And every drop of blood shed by the lash will be shed again by the sword. Discussions on Lincoln's second inaugural usually focus on the "with malice towards none and charity towards all" line, but this part has always been my favorite.

Detroit: Become Human does that in the intro, but it lies. The other cops keep yelling at you to come outside and deal with the active hostage situation, but the only way to save the hostage is to ignore them and examine every piece of evidence first.

Yes, I know. He was previously a state lawmaker. Now he's running for national offoce. It makes sense that he would change his policy on international relations from one job to the next.

Also, state legislators' opinions on international affairs just don't matter. California can't stop military aid to Israel. Any action would've been purely symbolic. I think it's okay to put off developing policies on foreign relations until you run for national office.

Some people never seem to understand that reviews are for readers, not for authors. Though I do personally feel bad giving a one-star review to a book with single digit number of ratings.

Been working my way through Gillian Bradshaw's novels. She's a classical philologist who wrote some excellent historical fiction about the ancient world, especially Rome in late antiquity. Nice to read about people trying to find some scraps of joy in a doomed world.

It doesn't mean they don't have to. It means they can't. The minority party has basically no power.

My favorite steam reviews were the 80+ hours played down voting Victoria 3 7 days after release. "I hate this game, that's why I've spent every waking moment playing it since it came out."
