Oh nice! That a pretty moth! Found my first jumping spider of the year today.

Time to get the Macro Muscles back into shape (oh believe me - it's a whole thing!)
Practicing with the amazing flexible twin flash @jencross.bsky.social gave me because my off camera flash muscles literally atrophied from my broken humerus in '19 π

Few local creatures stop me in my tracks like this, just the sheer size and soft colors and markings. Like, welp, day instantly better.
The intro to Round Here by Counting Crows:
Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog
Where no one notices the contrast of white on white
And in between the moon and you, the angels get a better view
Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right
It reminds me of struggles growing up.
A large grey lynx walks down a snowy road looking incredibly badass.
I'm celebrating half a century on this planet today and it's also #WorldWildlifeDay. I know there's a lot of darkness, but the world is still full of so much beauty. Let's celebrate it by sharing our favourite wildlife photos.
Macro photograph, in top view, of two insects standing on a cluster of small, 4-petalled white flowers. Both insects have a red head and thorax and black at their back ends. The beetle on the right is slightly broader, and has a narrow white line separating the red and black parts of its body, as to suggest a narrow ant waist.
Model and mimic: a clever longhorn beetle (Euderces reichei, at right) tries its best to look like a local carpenter ant, Campontous decipiens, as they both feed on a spring dogwood flower. Brackenridge Field Laboratory, Texas.
Two black and white penguins standing on the steep edge of an iceberg, one looking into a breaking wave, the other looking away. Another iceberg looms in the background.
Hey Heather, hope you had a great birthday! Here are a couple of Adelie Penguins trying to decide whether or not to brave the sea. #WorldWildlifeDay
Professional musician and heavy construction equipment operator. Both of them made things for a living. That fits.
Scientists just found Purgatorius, the worldβs oldest primate, lived much farther south than previously known.
The data suggest the tiny critter spread quickly after the asteroid that killed the dinos, migrating southward across the US.

Views of rock faces, cottonwood trees and running water in Aravaipa Creek.
Someone left a naturally formed rock that is in the shape of a heart in the canyon. It rests against a rock wall.
Spent an incredible day #hiking Aravaipa Canyon, one of Arizona's true wonders, yesterday. This is the OTHER place we are working to save from copper #mining in the lower San Pedro watershed.
This β₯οΈ rock (left in the canyon) completely encapsulates how I feel about this area.
Iβm so sorry John. He was a great dog and great companion. π’

Wow, the behavior of the acorn woodpeckers is very unexpected. I wonder if itβs been documented?
A partially-finished drawing of a raccoon looking at the camera on grey toned paper. The left side of the face is partially complete and four coloured pencils lie on the paper in the bottom right corner.
Looking for a fun spring project? Join me for a 4-session online course drawing a raccoon in coloured pencil starting April 1. I will walk you through all the steps from drawing the initial image to bringing it to life in colour. You can register at: www.mcnallyrobinson.com/classes #SciArt

Female #kakapo Kohengi on her nest with a newly-hatched chick and an egg (unseen). We removed the egg from underneath her and gave it to another female (Phoenix) who had infertile eggs. We're trying to ensure each female on Anchor Island has 1-2 fertile eggs to hatch. #kakapo2026 #conservation
On the ledge of a palm tree sits a red-tailed hawk hunched over. He pulls at a rodent he caught. Behind the hawks tail, a gray and white mockingbird hovers in mid-flight with feet pointing at the hawk.
A red-tailed hawk eats a rodent while a Northern mockingbird gets territorial. Happy π #SkySunday! There is a #BlueSky in the background. π

Band-tailed Pigeons are named after a literal light band on their tails - not because they band together...
...but they do also band together! A lot.

A bird with burnt orange on the chin, a tan brow, and a blue cap. It is looking out the opening of a nest made up of hundreds of dried mud pebbles.
Cliff Swallows will often build their nests on man made structures like concrete bridges, but @crawlieswithcri.bsky.social and I managed to find a flock gathering mud and a bunch nesting on a cliff. Check out how many bits of mud make up the nest! That is lots of work for these birds!

I always love their fluffy pants! Great shot!
A Great Grey Owl outstretches her wings wide to slow down. The background is snow covered. Her talons can be seen getting ready to grab the landing post.
The grace and ease with which a Great Grey Owl moves is a sight to behold. Here a Great Grey uses her wings to slow down as she approaches a post to land on. And check out those talons! #wildlife #birds #owls
I dunno, maybe theyβre happy not to have to get dressed up. Theyβve got plenty going on with laying eggs and rearing kids.
A brown bird piercing the base of a flower with its bill. The bird is hanging from a branch and the flower has red veined yellow petals and is oriented with the petals toward the ground.
The actually pierce flowers too. This is a female White-sided Flowerpiercer.
Thanks Glen, they are handsome birds!
Thanks, itβs one of my favorites.
Yep! They could be twins!
