Preprint on brain aging. From single timepoint data, estimate if delta reflects subject-varying aging rates vs baseline variations. For common analyses, baseline effects tend to dominate, whereas multiple aging modes show a range of results.

Maybe slightly odd timing, but we'd like to announce:
A new AFNI Bootcamp for FMRI/MRI, Jan 29-31, 2025. This part will focus on group analysis, statistics, surface analyses, results reporting and more.
This event will be virtual. Please see here:

I believe such technical work is key to achieving our mission — making data easier for everyone to access and use.
But it is extremely hard to find funding for technical work.

Research integrity and open science job offer.
Encouraging (for bsky) that in <2w since posting more actively, Imaging Neuroscience @imagingneurosci.bsky.social already has ~2k followers.
Also interesting that, even with 12k followers on X, level of engagement is similar in the two platforms.
Time to shut down X account, or, too soon?

Devastatingly sad news. My good friend, colleague, and a treasured scientist at the NIH for over 20 years, Dr. Sean Marrett, has passed away today. I wrote a short obituary for him. www.thebrainblog.org/2023/12/13/a...

Mick, are you sure that’s not a venomous Puss Caterpillar? Please be careful.
Good guest post on @stuartbuck.bsky.social 's Substsack about why some some fields self-correct faster than others. Reminiscent of what @talyarkoni.com has said about psychology: it took so long to ferret out irreproducible science because it mattered so little. open.substack.com/pub/goodscie...
