Many journalists understand source protection, but responsibility goes both ways. Think before posting. Once something is public, it can’t be taken back. Always remember to protect yourself and other members of the resistance!

Even well-intentioned sharing can expose a source (or yourself) if you’re not careful.

We feel this reminder is especially important for members of the resistance to keep in mind. Reporters have faced arrests and materials have been seized by the Trump administration.

If you believe something should be shared in the public interest, always protect yourself first:
- Don’t upload the original file
- Don’t share full screenshots of emails
- Remove headers, signatures, and timestamps
- Check carefully for names, email addresses, or reference numbers

Many messages contain subtle identifiers that can trace a copy back to a specific recipient. These can include formatting quirks(empty or random space), unique wording, misspelling, timestamps, header data, or hidden file metadata. Leak tracing is a real practice, and small details can matter.

Important reminder:
If you ever share a document or email publicly (especially from a reporter, organization, or official source) do not post it word-for-word or as a raw screenshot.
