e-6818 Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: Canadians depend on publicly funded and publicly accountable services in health care, education, and infrastructure; Privatization and outsourcing in some provinces have reduced transparency, weakened accountability, and cost taxpayers millions without service improvements; Federal transfers, including the Canada Health Transfer, Canada Social Transfer, and infrastructure programs, give Parliament legitimate tools to uphold transparency and protect universal access; Crown corporations and outsourced services are often structured outside freedom-of-information laws, shielding contracts and financial risks from public view; and The Canada Health Act sets national standards of universality, accessibility, and public administration, yet enforcement has weakened as privatization expands. We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Strengthen enforcement of the Canada Health Act to ensure provinces do not privatize insured services or introduce user fees and extra billing; 2. Attach transparency conditions to all federal transfers, requiring provinces and Crown corporations to disclose the financial implications of privatization or outsourcing, including contracts and long-term liabilities; 3. Mandate independent audits and public reporting of major privatization initiatives tied to federal funds, to ensure taxpayers are not left with higher costs and lower quality services; and 4. Create a national framework ensuring public consultation and democratic input before provinces or territories privatize publicly funded services.

There have been petitions & email campaigns for health advocacy.

I wonder if Canada health Coalition would be willing to lead a campaign for a national citizens assembly on at least privatization & for profit vs non-profit delivery.

Premiers are not as accountable as they claimed when they demanded more health transfers without strings.

Canadians need to unite somehow to change the power dynamics

How do Canadians become organized in advocating to strengthen healthcare?

If we change the game on Premiers and Prov Gov’s we will get some real action and system level accountability.

We need to put in the work as a society to ensure we get what we want. Premiers are ignoring advocates that attempt to influence good change & accountability.

The sale of LifeLabs to a foreign owner occurred on Eby & Dix’s watch.

There was no public move to stop it, no public move to buy BC’s assets and bring them into public fold.

Are you able to queue for outpatient care somewhere or is it cost prohibitive?

I think some prov’s allow Family Dr’s to offer mental healthcare.

It is apparent we have a number of issues in our health system that politicians and high priced executives are not solving.

LifeLabs is now foreign owned - the main healthcare lab service in 3 Provinces, BC, Sask & Ontario.

Not one politician resisted this across Canada.

The sale was well telegraphed, ample time for Prov’s to get involved.

Political ideology is damaging our single payer healthcare.

Regular Canadians should decide key structures for healthcare.

1) what regions want nationalized jurisdiction vs Prov/ Territory delivered.

2)
-for profit vs non-profit delivery.
-ratio of private owners vs public owned assets and services.
