I’m curious if there are any scientific journals that are running special issues or pieces from scientists who are losing their funding or being fired. It needs to go down on the permanent record for the people who come after us.

Old friend just laid off by USDA, 1 mos short of his probationary period as senior researcher. Brilliant person who left a tenured faculty position several yrs ago to join USDA. Bright early-career researchers also being laid off. USDA is terminating a generation of highly-qualified scientists.
The cost-saving claims don’t hold up. Every dollar in NIH research grants generates $2.46 in economic activity, research shows—a total of $93 billion in 2023 alone.
“It’s incredible to me that we would give up this thing that has such obvious societal benefits,” says biologist Mark Peifer.

We are hearing that there is a meeting of all NIH IC directors happening now. We are also hearing, from several sources, rumors about director and assistant director level removals coming soon.
