While @warbirdsworldwide.bsky.social is much missed by those involved or know it, it's clear that @vintageavecho.bsky.social is carrying that quality and authority mix forward, into the C21st, and better than WW could have done back in the day. It's worth it.

Great to see @shuttleworthtru.bsky.social ! A unique organisation in the heritage aviation field, making the airfield at Old Warden a magical place.
Here's an example - the oldest, most original Hucks Starter used on the collection's Hawker Hind, with the Collection's Miles Magister tail behind.

In the 1990s, at the RAF Museum reserve collection, RAF St Athan, Wales, the 2-seat Focke-Wulf Fw-190F-8/U1 584219 - was run up at open days. It was, then, the only active BMW 801 engine in the world.
The aircraft is now back in Germany. RAFM aircraft history: www.rafmuseum.org.uk/documents/co...

Mozzie Flies
On the 27th September, 2012, the rebuilt de Havilland Mosquito FB 26, KA114, flew for the first time from Ardmore Airfield, New Zealand, after construction by Glyn Powell and Avspecs. Hereβs β¦
In Sept 2012, I covered the restoration of the first 'new' de Havilland Mosquito to fly in the 21st Century. An unforgettable period and notable achievement by a select group. A short grab of the story on my blog (Spot the Champagne cork?): vintageaerowriter.wordpress.com/2022/09/29/m...

Cover of a magazine, named 'Cavalier' with a civilian painted Mustang and a woman in a summer dress on the wing 'promoting' the aircraft.
Something for the weekend sir? We recommend the latest issue (June 1962, since you ask) of the gentleman's ~hem~ magazine 'Cavalier', featuring none-other than the Cavalier Mustang?
It's definitely what the smart-dressed sixties executive is wearing, Sir.
The lady? She's extra.

Cover of Warbirds Worldwide Journal 44, headline 'Polikarpovs in Russia'.
A gratuitous cover shot from back in the day, and when Wanaka NZ was an epicentre of warbird innovation. Want to see the late Mark Hanna's piece again?
Say so, and we'll get linked here. -James

Do you remember this brochure? A REVELATION in 1987, and we joined up to get a truely worldwide insight to the warbird world, 'helmed' by Editor, the late, Paul A Coggan.
It's a new era now, so where is the warbird community on BlueSky? Check in so we know you! Look forward to more warbird content!

Neat VintageAv content! A retirement tweet (get on BSky, VLBVolkel!)
"Two F-35s paid a farewell salute yesterday next to the historic Douglas DC-3 Dakota PH-PBA βοΈ It was the last time the DC-3 flew. The classic aircraft is now going to the aviation museum @Aviodrome."
Hope for a return 'one day'?

If you're not following @nottcaro.bsky.social and @newarkairmuseum.bsky.social you should be! The known @warbirdsworldwide.bsky.social archives are now held by this great collection! Caroline has been sharing a LOT of great imagery from this collection, some of which, like this, I think I recognise!

A photograph by James Kightly, Vintage Aero Writer, of 16 Spitfires against a blue sky in four boxes of four.
This is the first big Spitfire Balbo in the modern warbird era; Duxford 3 May 1998, led by Rod Dean with the BBMF in the 'box'. Anyone want to list em? Go, below:
(Getting 16 Spitfires in the air at once was a BIG job: but getting 16 formation-qualified, current, Spitfire pilots was just as hard.)
