Do not miss the crème brûlée donut at Dieg. Eat it there while it’s still warm. Also, we enjoyed the small but lovely botanical garden if you are there in the summer.

Also it’s time to stop blaming the pandemic. Let’s look at how all the time on gaming and social media is changing students. That’s the real issue to me.
That looks delicious.
Or wait, hang on, I *made* a video about costume history books filled with recommendations 🤦♀️ (forehead smack)

D’Amatos for Italian sandwiches. Greek food at Avli. Noon O’Kebab
Xoco, especially for breakfast. Gaijin has great okonomiyaki.
Tried Mary Berry’s Floating Islands. So much technical fun. Poaching meringue is a real skill. Ours is not yet ready for Paul’s steely blue eyes, but it was fun. Even our middling results were delicious.
At my school we teachers had a training with police shooting blanks down the hallway. Horrifying. All parents should have to attend a similar training at their children’s school so they really understand.
We had an absolutely lovely strawberry banana cream pie from Hoosier Mama in Chicago.
We have been enjoying the salted caramel pretzel flavor this week.
It’s wild, absolutely wild, how for EVERY. SINGLE. CITY. Trump wants to militarize I can post data showing how crime is plummeting in all of them without any federal invasion…
… and the press KEEPS stenographing the naked bad-faith claims about “fighting crime!” in the headlines.
Infuriating.
Truth. And honestly I feel a little guilty about feeling joy when I can.
My hands down favorite is Principles to Action because it gives specific examples in the text to illustrate how we should teach to build student centered teaching skills.
There would be the food I grew up on: Jello “salads,” everything smothered in mayo or ranch dressing, lots of overcooked vegetables.
Williams and other schools with the endowments to support these choices need to stand up. Proud of my Alma mater.
I’ve been eyeing some spruce syrup. It would be a new flavor for me. Worth the $20 splurge?
It’s easy to be depressed, discouraged, dumbfounded by the cruelty and brainlessness of Trump and the people around him.
But today I want to celebrate what may be a turn in the Trump tide. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/sunday-thought-4a6
I was unable to work between December & April due to a breakdown. Every single RT here helps put my creative & mental health workshops in front of more eyes & helps me get back on my feet financially. It would help *so* much if you could RT my workshop below if you have a few seconds. Thankyou 🌿
"That Mr. Musk has come to hold so many of the same beliefs about social engineering and economic planning as his grandfather is a testament to his profound lack of political imagination, to the tenacity of technocracy and to the hubris of Silicon Valley." www.nytimes.com/2025/04/04/o...
You know she’s a math teacher when she orders a gin and conics.
This is on my list to try. Yours looks fabulous.
It would be so helpful if you could retweet my May botanical illustration & mental health w’shop in my previous post if you have a moment. I've been unable to work since December due to a breakdown (not proud of this) & I'm trying to get back on my feet so if you could RT it would help enormously 🌿
Looks delicious. Are those sliced potatoes on the top?
The sweet potatoes were our favorite new savory dish. But that pavlova was smashingly delicious.
Salad: ricotta on bottom layer. Then beets. Beet greens and sorrel on top.
Miso dressing. Pickled red onions. Gochugang sesame squash. Lettuce.
Indian spiced sweet potatoes with chimichurri sauce.
Pavlova with orange mascarpone whipped cream and cranberry pomegranate sauce.
So much fun cooking this week! Beet salad: Lemon herb ricotta, beet greens and sorrel, red wine vinaigrette. Gochugang- sesame squash with pickled onions and miso dressing. Indian spiced sweet potatoes with chimichurri sauce. Cranberry pomegranate pavlova.🍽️
