Catherine O’Hara was a hilarious, gorgeous, and older woman. Three things a lot of women grew up thinking didn’t mix, but they did. They all did. RIP you Canadian treasure
Yes!
Catherine O’Hara got us through the pandemic. In our darkest hour Moira Rose lit up the day
Truly one of the funniest performers of all time. I gasped when I heard the news and then I cried.

7 reasons #AI is a tool of global domination and tech fascism.
1. Constant hallucinations which are factually incorrect but subtly interwoven with correct information, requiring expertise to spot. As a routinely used research tool, it undermines facts/truth - helpful for fascism.
The little one LOVES this album and refers to it as “rock & roll”. I’m too happy to get into a semantic argument about genre and sub-genre.
Autumn and Spring are the best seasons!
Lush. I love the light at this time of year.
Man, everytime you remind me of this game series, I think,
a) does ‘Yakuza’ contain the most profound thinking in the entirety of the medium of video games?
b) I should play ‘Yakuza’.
c) it would consume my life- there are so many instalments!
It’s just a perfect pairing. Really excited about this one.
“I'm... I'm not arguing here! I'm cooperating. So there's no need to... we're doin' all we can here.”
Yes.
Also, because this is now a Steely Dan space, Walter Becker’s solo on

Tilghman’s shadowy drive to claim the Double Deuce and use Dalton to kill Brad Wesley (ethnically Italian, came up on the streets of Chicago) now finally reveals itself as the ‘Christmas Adventure’ it always was….
Holy Moly- it was Tilghman?! I had a vague, but discomforting, sense of ‘I know this guy…’ but couldn’t place him when I saw OBAA.
Me, anticipating you would react that way;
You;
It’s brutal. Bring on Morgan Fairchildaissance.
I feel you. I get Morgan Freeman (whatever, no strong feelings), some douchebag fascist country singer and ‘Piers’ 🤮
Rom-com is a genre where I love only a couple of really exceptional examples as most fall in to the trap you mention. I love romance as it usually pits a couple against an antagonist force that is outside of the relationship (distance/circumstance/class/war etc) while rom-coms are usually internal.
Haha you’re absolutely right, just like ‘They Cane Together’. Nous somme Bill Hader.
It’s really, really excellent filmmaking (like technically how it’s made) but the story is…. It feels like randomly hearing an older couple tell you about their ‘charming love story of how they got together’ and the more you hear them talk you feel ‘These are deeply odd people. Also… age math..’
This thread reminds me of this great clip I saw about ‘verbal ju-jitsu’; youtu.be/-4UEgtt4ZPM
Our audience surrogate, our champion in the theatre, fills the empty space after this grotesque statement with;
“NUTTER. ABSOLUTE NUTTER”
It was the single best thing I had ever heard from an audience member in a cinema. It enhanced the whole experience and made his death sweet. 10/10
As the action builds- and the movie reaches its demented climax (as hundreds of bodies are hitting the floor and our titular heroes are bravely dying to take down a despot) the villainous Lord Naritsugu Matsudaira declares “Once I'm on the Shogun's council, let's bring the age of war”
She reacts in gasps and audible shocks throughout the movie; punctuating the movie with a kind of colour commentary of the carnage onscreen. It begins to flow like the perfect rifftrax for our own reactions.
From the outside, (older middle-aged/aghast) she appears to be a person who not only doesn’t seem to be the target audience for a hyper-violent samurai film like ‘13 Assassins’, she appears to be a person who has been magically teleported into the audience to view this movie.
