Built a pilot test for epistemic knowledge in history. 79 Czech students this week.

Mean item difficulty: 0.35. Two items hit the floor. Way harder than expected.

Is the construct genuinely challenging or do items need work? That's what pilots are for.

This week: piloted a think-aloud study on AI use in history class. Transcribed 4 sessions with speaker diarization. First finding? The protocol doesn't fit a 45-min lesson. Back to the drawing board. #HistoryEducation #AcademicSky

: Student Perspectives on High-Stakes Testing (2015–2025): An AI-Assisted Systematic Review of Empirical Evidence on Motivation, Learning, and Well-Being

Just had a research plan published in Lifecycle Journal! An AI-assisted review of 10 years of research on how high-stakes tests affect students.

If you’re interested in assessment or student voices, I’d love to hear your thoughts. lifecycle-flax.fly.dev/journal/arti...

I also gave a talk: Historical thinking or epistemic knowledge? Students’ think-alouds as a tool for clarifying concepts of historical thinking.

Highlights: sharp debates on entrance exams, standardized testing, and how to innovate them. A new working group was formed to design a catalog of “standardized” tasks.

Love that ADD is not just about naming problems, but tackling them.

Sticking to tradition: history content distribution in Czech school curricula This study examines the distribution of historical topics within Czech school curricula. Following a pre-registered methodology, a randomised sample of 321 Czech schools was selected, and history topi...

Just got my first paper published! 🥳 doi.org/10.14324/HER...

How Czech schools teach history:
1. 95% follow national themes
2. Textbooks shape content + order
3. Extra topics aren’t random - cluster around classic narratives

Thanks @histedresearch.bsky.social team for your very professional work!

Got a paper review that was clearly AI-generated… and not even a good one. Barely related to my work. Feeling pretty sad about it.

Got my first paper reviews back—turns out they’re not soul-crushing! How do academics celebrate a win like this? 😄

I haven’t lived through the collapse of a civilisation before

I study history so I have read the guidebooks, but they don’t quite capture the experience of being there

Analyzing Czech curricula is tough, but AI/LLMs can help. Our study used history curricula to explore:

1️⃣ Efficient data extraction
2️⃣ Clear topic division
3️⃣ Accurate historical labels

🔍 AI handled curricula well, matching human coders in organizing and labeling content.

Hey, I’m Juda Kaleta! PhD student in History Education, former teacher, now dabbling in software dev. I’ll be sharing my PhD journey, thoughts on assessing historical thinking, and how AI might change education. It's a weird mix, but isn't that the fun part?
