I think this is the result of many decades of lower government preoccupation (and funding) for education. The extreme right wing Christian fanatics hate education and they have had well funded media campaigns that over the years have generated a large uneducated grupo in society (1/2)

How do you know? Without feee and fair elections we have no idea what the Cuban people want. Plus, it’s not communism versus Batista, there are intermediate options. The longer the Cuban regime resists change the more likely that you will have another dictatorship in the future

International pressure in the form of trade embargo worked to bring down the apartheid regime in South Africa. I suggest to do the same in the case of the oldest dictatorship in Latin America
