Four images of 10 years of transformation in Paris: 2016–2026.
@annehidalgo.bsky.social will no longer be mayor in March 2026, but this vision of a Paris for life must live on.
Cities are places of solidarity, kindness and well-being in an increasingly authoritarian and brutal world. We need it!

Sizewell C is predicted to cost Β£38 billion.

For the same amount of money, you could install solar panels, heat pumps and batteries in 3 million homes.

That would generate energy locally, rather than put massive strains on an already overloaded grid.

Makes you think.

Congratulations to @theloopuk.bsky.social on the launch of London's first drug checking service. It took them 14 years to get permission. I wish govt would put harm reduction measures that save lives above the posturing that we can arrest our way out of the problem. wearetheloop.org/media-centre...

Let there be…..darkness.

Enjoy the sound of our Eurostar e300 (aka Class 373) slipping into the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone, as she has done daily for thirty odd years.

What we consider mundane and normal now, entering the Channel Tunnel, was once a revolution that changed Europe.

It’s not very far between the mouth of the Avon and Portishead Dock, but it was one of the most scary Narrowboat journeys we have ever done.
There was a very slight swell!

Can we now talk about building HS2 in full, releasing capacity on the existing rail network, getting more freight and passengers on it, and electrifying it to reducing it to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels?

This is why the Green position is no new nuclear. Like trees, the best time to build a nuclear power plant was 20 years ago. Unlike trees, the second best time doesn’t seem to be now.

I'm delighted with my heat pump.

But my experience getting it installed taught me what’s been stopping many more people from getting one (so far).

I wrote for @politicshome.bsky.social on the hurdles that government needs to think about as it implements the Warm Homes Plan. πŸ‘‡

Europe’s Noise Capital Tries to Turn Down the Volume To combat the ill effects of urban noise pollution, Paris is deploying automated sensors and cracking down on the loudest vehicles.

β€œThe effort to quiet Paris complements the wider campaign to make Paris greener, cleaner & less car-dependent, which include vehicle restrictions in the center, crackdowns on polluting vehicles, & an ambitious expansion of bike networks. Those have cut the city’s average noise level by 2 decibels.”

Walking and cycling in Bristol save NHS more than Β£15m a year Bristol's transport supremo says there is a "clear mandate" to continue with active travel initiatives across the city

The data is clear: walking and cycling are good for our health, for the public purse, and for our cityscapes.

That's why @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social continues to push for better active travel infrastructure across our whole city.
