THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Probably the FRESH PRINCE house, but I will say that this angle of the BRADY BUNCH living room reveals how good an architect Mike Brady was. The room actually looks dynamic from this viewpoint!

Also: if you're ever looking for something fun to watch on a lazy evening, this double feature of Andrew Bergman-Nicolas Cage romcoms would definitely fill the bill!
(However, if you're gonna watch just one, it should be IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. It's great!)

The Music of It Could Happen to You (Burwell)

Random shoutout to what's quietly one of the greatest romantic-comedy scores ever written.

Daniel LaRusso moments before giving Johnny Lawrence a concussion.
The simple fact is, if anyone ever looks at you like this - you're about to get crane kicked in the face.

Also: it's crazy to me that people call Bruce Springsteen un-patriotic when his work is some of the most quintessentially American in pop music. It's bittersweet Americana, but that's the most honest kind!

Sad Eyes (Studio Outtake - 1990)
YouTube video by Bruce Springsteen - Topic
There's a DAWSON'S CREEK episode that uses this song at a couple points and it's honestly one of the greatest needle drops I've ever heard.

Carl Barks definitely deserves such an honor! Iβd say his spiritual successor, Don Rosa, does too. Have them intersect and thatβd be the best street corner in the world!

I really know nothing about GI JOE beside playing with a hand-me-down action figure (and NOT wanting Max Landis near it or any other movie) but this thread is definitely convincing me to give it a try!

I hate that we are living in times where it feels the only thing we can do is triage those affected. Where charity is the only weapon against the worst people in the world. But if you can fix something for someone today, please do it. A lot of folks are asking for help, maybe throw them some.

Buncha Brady: Nick at Nite Marathon | Commercials & Bumpers | Part 1 | 1995
YouTube video by Second Rate Film School
#TIL that my beloved 1998 BRADY BUNCH marathon wasn't the first time the show aired on Nick at Nite! This marathon happened in 1995 (in conjunction with TBS) to celebrate the release of THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE (which is good!). This surprised me!

I believe thatβs it. Thanks!
Iβve always found dolls and mirrors to be a bit unnerving. That, combined with that βDo you always act that way when you get visited?β line, is a perfect storm of fear for me!

Mystery: Why do Mirrors Freak Me Out? #shorts #80skids
YouTube video by Ken Reid: TV Guidance Counselor
Hey @kennethwreid.bsky.social, I was wondering if you could tell me where the clip that starts at (roughly) 0:10 comes from? It's terrifying and I must seek it out.

Paddy Chayefsky sure knew how to write dialogue. Itβs hard for me to describe it without sounding corny, but thereβs beauty in how natural and down-to-earth it sounds!

Over on that OTHER website, I once wrote a thread about the Cascades that remains one of my finest hours on social media. Theyβre an undersung β60s pop group I highly recommend if you like soft, harmony-and-vocal-driven pop!

The face is in the top centerβ¦
I know itβs just pareidolia, but one of the first things I noticed was the face created by the bush to the fire pitβs right.
Itβs a perfect combination of a twisted imagination with some well-placed light and shadow!

My favorite thing about this story is how itβs built around a simple physical gesture. Itβs definitely informed by emotion, but at the end of the day, itβs just letting your cheek muscles fall. Sometimes it really is that simple!

Itβs been a long time since Iβve seen ANGUS and I barely remember seeing it, but I do remember that George C. Scott is EMPOWERING as the grandpa. He totally embodies the βbe happy with who you areβ attitude (even though he words it as βScrew what people thinkβ)!

Something I always found extremely funny as a New Englander, William Daniels always sounded incredibly urbane and educated because he apparently grew up with an INCREDIBLY thick Boston accent and did his best to train himself out of it to be taken seriously as an actor.
