Numbers we'd like to see come down:
- People dying in the channel
- Children traumatised by violent border enforcement
- People unable to return to work due to the damage of the asylum work ban
Numbers our Government won't even count, while the media obsesses over how many people survive crossings.
What will really keep children safe is:
๐ฃ Accountability for deaths in the Channel from the UK and French governments
๐ฃ An end to all police violence at the border
๐ฃ Safe routes to seek asylum in the UK and France

Today Yvette Cooper said she wants to criminalise people crossing the Channel "to keep children safe".
She clearly hasn't read our report!
Our research shows how increased securitization of the UK France border doesn't keep children safe, it puts them in danger ๐
"[The police] bring out the knives and pepper spray, then guns... Iโm only a child. Why are you doing this?โ
Every day we see the UK and France pursuing policies which not only fail to protect children's rights, but actively threaten and undermine them ๐

This picture is the cover of a report released by Project Play on the violence against children on the UK-France border in 2024. It features an illustration of a family on a cliff, struggling to hold up their home, whilst they hold suitcases and bags.
๐ฃ Our new report, highlighting the devastating impact of increasing violence against children on the UK-France border, is out today.
It centres the voices of the children we worked with in 2024, and is dedicated to those killed on the border last year.
