I was nobody's favorite author back when I was writing novels, but I was with major publishers & getting translated to other languages & sent on multi-city book tours and over 20 years, I made an average of $12K/year. (It didn't help that I only published 5 books. Writing quick is a good skill.)

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.
