Don't Forget that FORAMS 2026 (in scenic Amherst Massachusetts!) abstracts are due on March 15! If you just submit this video as an abstract it'll probably be accepted.

Since the Fisk map is circulating again, I want to highlight a very good and probably underappreciated* paper by Aslan and Autin on how soils develop in this setting, through the interaction of pedogenic processes, sedimentation, and hydrology. doi.org/10.1130/0016...
*like so many good soils papers

Such a bad position to be in where you want to make sure folks are there, but if too much grade is just being there, then students fail or ask for all kinds of make-up.

I’m very proud of the Drawdown Explorer. In only six months, we have created the world’s go to resource for climate solutions.

And it’s only getting better! Check it out.

Tsunamigenic rockslide on your desktop?

This is a scaled and simplified model of the 2017 Karrat landslide.

I think it captures the dynamics of the tsunami generation quite well, though it is of course, very simplified.

As I told my undergrads at the start of the semester, I'm not asking you to write a paper about Little Rock's school desegregation because I don't know what happened there.

Little Rock is just the topic. The act of researching, writing and editing the paper is the whole point.

A "They don't know meme." A basic black and white ms paint drawing depicts a man wearing a party hat and holding a drink standing in the corner at a party, while he watches four other people dancing and enjoying themselves. He has a slightly tired and bored expression, and text next him to says "They don't know there are millions of giant squid in the ocean"

Because giant squid (Architeuthis dux) in the deep sea and humans do not, we don't interact with them much, leading some to believe that they are rare.

However, the estimates for the total giant squid population are in the millions, with some of the higher estimates being over a hundred million.

Really excited to see this paper out!! Led by @vtcoop.bsky.social we show that if you use cold and warm paleoclimates together, you can reduce uncertainty in Earth's climate sensitivity by quantifying the pattern effect and more precisely constrain future climate change www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
