I assume the WNBPA has at least some sort of data or metrics to help them contextualize their strategy. If I was in their shoes, I would be focused on solidifying the current gains—not necessarily maxing the deal. 2nd priority is forcing the league to continue investing in building the audience.

Many of them probably would come right back, but there’s undoubtedly a non-zero impact to viewership which only hurts the fight for better pay.

I think what’s missing from your take is the split between WNBA viewers and fans. I think they’re building a great product with a lot of casual viewers who could be lost by striking, even if fan support remains. Commercial success needs those casual viewers, not just the fans.
