Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent anomalies in red shading compared to each year from 1979 to 2024 using shades of purple to white for each line. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. 2025 is currently a record low. There is substantial interannual and daily variability. There is also a long-term decreasing trend.

The magnitude of the current size of the #Arctic sea ice extent anomaly is unheard of in the satellite-era record for the deep winter season months.

There are about 27,000 scientists at #AGU24, and about half of them work on climate one way or another. Whenever I walk into a room like this, I always take a moment to take it all in—all these people dedicated their lives to working on some of our toughest problems. That gives me strength.

Connecting with new and old colleagues over lunch, coffee, cramming hugs inbetween sessions and promises to follow up.
