@smbrander.bsky.social et al. have assembled quite the team! Be sure to shoot us a follow for exciting news/opportunities coming soon!
Thinking about using AIOMFAC to determine the water activity of surfactant solutions? We show that AIOMFAC can make accurate predictions for solutions with surfactant, BUT the newly updated oxyethylene group should be used for molecules with a PEG-like tail. @pccp.rsc.org doi.org/10.1039/D5CP...
Only 8 days left to nominate a stellar early-career molecular scientist for @cenmag.bsky.social's Talented 12. I'd love to see more folks from industry in our nominations pool. Link to the nomination form here: cen.acs.org/sections/nom...

I will be at Pacific Chem too!
Finally made it to Buffalo and ready for #AAAR2025
My group's most recent work, looking at surfactant mixtures in aerosol droplets, is now online in Environmental Science & Technology pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

Atmospheric chemist Alison Bain works as an assistant professor at Oregon State University, where she studies the properties of single, nanometer-sized aerosol particles.
Atmospheric chemist @alisonbain.bsky.social, an assistant professor at @oregonstate.edu and one of C&EN's Talented 12, will be speaking at the #CENT12 Symposium on Monday, August 18 in Washington, DC. RSVP here: connect.discoveracs.org/talented-12-...

My team's first research paper is now online in Aerosol Science and Technology 'Surface tension predictions during hygroscopic growth and cloud droplet activation using a simple kinetic surfactant partitioning model' www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
My favorite day of the year might be the one snowy day we get in Corvallis, and bonus, they close the university so I can go outside and enjoy it.

Teaching spectroscopy this term means I get to spend time in the lab building demos. If the students donβt enjoy them at least I had fun.
My group is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the chemical and physical properties of candidate materials for solar radiation management. Candidates with a background in aerosol science and/or spectroscopy are encouraged to apply. www.bainaerosolresearch.com/join
I teach my analytical chemistry class how to use Python for data analysis. At the beginning of the term, a poll indicated that 75% of the class had never used Python before, now, just 10 weeks later, my students are submitting Python code to solve problems on assignments where it is not required. π₯°
