A personal honor to have the work of myself and my collaborators covered in Il Piccolo, the Trieste newspaper that published James Joyce when he lived here.

This is a nice little essay that scientists-in-training should read. Writing is a process for thinking and developing ideas as much as communicating. Some types of discomfort are productive and should be embraced. Good writing is hard and uncomfortable, and crucial for career progression.

Crossing a railway line, my tire slipped into the tract and I went down hard. I now make sure I hit them exactly perpendicular to prevent this.

I can send pictures later (I'm away from Bloomington), but as others have noted, muffin tins can hold more batter than cupcake tins. And they are built to encourage more of a "muffin top," the best part of a muffin!

I am looking for wide-ranging mammalian DNA samples for a class I am developing. Especially sought-after would be parent-offspring paired samples.

Please retweet (re-skeet?), thank you!

I remember when Maureen Stanton tracked bumblebees by following them and dropping poker chips along the way to allow her to retrace the route. Wow, how far things have come!

Work led by @pbentz.bsky.social shows that two of eight dispersals of Asparagus out of Southern Africa were associated with shifts to dioecy and independently evolved XY sex determination systems.

Wild wind and rain today across parts of New Zealand. Areas of the North Island were flooded very recently, and now it’s happening again, this time in the center. Rail and ferry traffic has been stopped. Those communities are getting hammered.

Point it out to the AE when you respond. As a former I would want to know. On the flip, I reviewed a ms that appeared to be largely written by AI. Overly vague/bland, with no insight. What are people thinking? As another commenter noted, we need to nip this in the bud with our collective actions.

We have millions of specimens like these in our collection, but did you know you can now see them on our new Data Portal, for free!? πŸ‘‡

My advisor, David Lloyd, would walk down to my office and talk while leaning against the filing cabinet for 20 minutes and then ask if I had a moment to talk. We’d go to his office and chat about science for an hour. Those were the days. I just tried to soak it all in.
