My comment to the publicist after tonightβs scary movie press screening (that, on paper at least, should have been right up my alley): βWhat a load of horses**t.β π‘
Seriously, though, Iβm weirdly convinced everyone saw a far different film with the same title at Sundance. π€·ββοΈ
Oh well. It happens. π

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

For my secret (very, very belated) birthday event this year showed roughly 35 people triple bill of A TRIP TO THE MOON (1902), HAREDEVIL HARE (1948) and REAL GENIUS (1985). Such fun. Having several teens oooh and ahhh over a silent film was pretty neat. They had terrific questions after, too. Yay!

May have shed a tear or two tonight with #TheLastDriveIn. Having Joe Bob back - warts & all - has truly meant so much to me. Discovering him as a kid was revelatory. Having him return just as much so. Know itβs not goodbye, still feels like it. Iβll miss these Fridays more than I can say. #MutantFam

Well, much (not all, of course) of it appears to be coming from a certain gender, so Iβm not entirely shocked. Also, itβs so in your face, so forcefully UNsubtle with its themes, I do get how some are rubbed the wrong way by it.
But not me. Mist decidedly - - - NOT ME. π

It goes without saying that #MessiahOfEvil should be right up my alley, but even on rewatch I still find it a pretentious - if admittedly hypnotic - slog. The Radiance Blu-ray set is phenomenal, though. So, if you are a fan, make sure and pick that up.

Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"

Easily Pixarβs best movie since TURNING RED, the delightfully anarchic #Hoppers is also one of the studioβs funniest flights of irreverent fancy that theyβve ever released. Loved. β€οΈ

4K Review: Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025)
Exploring horror, film, and pop culture, all while celebrating the creators, history, and artistry that keep the genre alive.
Hey yβall, I did my first home media review in years & thankfully I ended up really digging the movie (the VENOM as a slasher movie vibe totally spoke to me). You can read my thoughts on SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT β25 here (for free & paid): from-the-desk-of-the-horror-chick.ghost.io/4k-review-si...

I get that it wonβt work for everyone (and that some may even despise it), but itβs the type of big, bold swing we need more of. My hope is that audiences challenge themselves and give it a chance. I think itβs magnificent.

Messy. Angry. Wild. Peculiar. Frenetic. Exhilarating. Awesome.
Maggie Gyllenhaal resurrects a legend with ferociously fearless enthusiasm. It doesnβt all work and I could care less. Loved every go-for-broke second.
Jessie Buckley is phenomenal.

I need to know your secrets. I had two years of practically zero activity because of injuries and ailments, and all that lounging was murder on my weight. Now that Iβm healthy and back in the gym, I canβt seem to shed anything. So annoying!!!! π‘
Anyhow, good for you! Thatβs so awesome. Well done. β€οΈ

βSinnersβ Sets Record With Seven Dorian Film Awards Including Best Picture, Director & Screenplay
'Sinners' dominated the 2026 Dorian Film Awards with a record seven wins including Best Film and Director from the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics:
Last night was the @dorianawards.bsky.social for GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. I'm proud to be a voting member, especially when a film like SINNERS sets a new record and Ryan Coogler wins the Wilde Artist of the Year prize.

Bonkers. Unhinged. Moving. Flabbergasting. Weird. Inspired. Perverse. Empathetic. Loopy.
But most of all? EXTRAORDINARY.
