Congratulations!

Who gets to be the βloserβ in policy stories? Narrative approaches in public policy often feel surprisingly (theoretically) thin on characters, so great to see this new paper by Rachel McGovern, Hilda Broqvist & Crystal Soderman in @psjeditor.bsky.social
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Nothing sparks a love for books in children quite like a full-family meltdown over a costume at 7 AM on a random Thursday.
"One in five (22%) also supported it for non-white citizens whose parents were born in the UK" - this is shocking.

10/10 title!
(And a really interesting paper as well!)

βοΈ The Politics and Practice of Truth: Critical and Interpretive Perspectives on the Relationship Between Evidence and Policy in Post-Truth Times
πͺ Lars Dorren & @justynabandola.bsky.social
β Deadline: 5 Jan buff.ly/Kr4XaUA
If you are working in this area or are interested in this topic, do get in touch!
The project has a comparative focus exploring: 1.) Settings where practices have been βaugmentedβ by introducing AI tools to enhance some elements of the review process; 2.) Settings where practices are being βreplacedβ by the automated evidence infrastructure for real-time evidence synthesis.
The project will explore three levels of change brought about by AI: epistemic (how it reshapes knowledge production); organisational (how it changes professional norms and career trajectories); institutional (how it transforms science-policy interactions)
I am delighted to share that I have been awarded a UKRI AI Metascience Fellowship.
π My project, Transforming Evidence Synthesis: AI and the (R)evolution of the Evidence Ecosystem, will investigate the implications of AI on the practice of evidence synthesis and the broader research ecosystem.
STS to International Relations concept pipeline takes 15 years. I do not have hard evidence, but I just know it's true. I even have a theory why this is happening.
Thanks for contributing! It was fantastic!
β¨ Due to popular demand, we are organizing our #AI politics panel at the @ecpr.bsky.social General Conference for the 6th year in a row
Topic this year 'Demystifying power in/ of Artificial Intelligence'
Looking forward to seeing many of you at #ecprgc25 ecpr.eu/Events/Event...
@ingaulnicane.bsky.social and I are planning a workshop on the role and uses of AI in evidence-based policymaking in spring 2025. Get in touch if youβre interested in joining us!
Sounds great - I look forward to read your findings!
Thanks Anna!
Evidence cultures act as filters, making some forms of evidence visible and available while others are ignored and irrelevant. They shape epistemic repertoires of expertise, acting like interpretative frames of available evidence.
As with any culture, evidence culture is 'sticky' and difficult to change. However, it happens from time to time! I termed this process 'paradigmatic learning' as it requires not only the accumulation of knowledge but also institutional political and social shifts legitimising the change.
It focuses on how evidence and expertise are culturally driven phenomena. Therefore, what 'counts' as robust evidence differs across organisations. Social processes reinforce these evidentiary standards, for example, networks of mentorship and collaboration or key norm entrepreneurs promoting them.
Why do advisory organisations approach evidence differently? My new @policysociety.bsky.social paper explores the concept of evidence culture and how it shapes organisations' evidentiary standards (what evidence is seen as legitimate, valuable and actionable).

Now we need a starter pack with funny people and sh*tposters!
And here is another start pack, for all those interested in the politics of knowledge and expertise !

Competition in academia not only allocates resources but also socializes participants. We have studied how multiple competitions pile up, compete, or contradict each other in the postdoc stage, and how postdocs cope with these multiple sources of socialization. #IchbinHanna

Congrats Jelena! Sounds really exciting!
Good job here:
This programme seeks to explore the meaning of social justice in an age of datafication and artificial intelligence (AI).

This is the most genius idea I have ever heard!
Great position for philosophers of biology! #philsky #philbio #philsci
Fingers crossed Jelena! Sounds super cool!
And by βthereβ I mean session 7.1 in room 141!
