This may be a Canadian/English formulation, but I think others have identified the appropriate American tort of a violation of publicity rights

*NB: legal info, not advice
It's not defamation (tho' I can appreciate how it's insulting), but it does accord with the tort of (mis)appropriation of personality. Grammarly is using your persona and the commercial goodwill you've garnered to sell its product, without you having licensed that use.

Truth Social post by Donald J Trump:
"If Iran has put out any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no reports of them doing so, we them removed, IMMEDIATELY! If for any reason mines were placed, and they were not removed forthwith, the Military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before. If , on the other hand, they removed what may have been placed, it will a giant step in the right direction! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

This is Exhibit A in the destruction of international law: now that its norms have been neutered, the wrongness of Iran's alleged mining of the Strait (bracketing the obvious wrongness of the US' war) can only be a political wrong, and Trump's only recourse is to either cajole or force Iran to stop.

Besides the historical & theological errors OP makes, I don't understand their point: taxes are funds that allow a community to provide essential services (provision of public space, food, clothing).
Relying on voluntary charity (i.e. philanthropy) is neoliberal privatization of a social function.

But I don't think the experiment would run as well if the samples were longer, requiring thematic development. That's when AI "writing" shows itself to be empty, as *all* it is is bursts of rhetoric.

10.03.2026 03:45 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I think the NYT "experiment" also presented a skewed sample, in that AI is quite capable of generating rhetoric, as it is able to draw abstract symbols/metaphors from all the writing it's been trained on.

Besides the risible substance of the argument, the analysis is confused: why does the professor locate the blame on the individual consumer, when the corporation has offered a menu with these specialized options?

I hear you. Things have gotta change internally, but I appreciate that now may not be the most opportune moment, when energies on the Jewish left would be better directed elsewhere.

I agree, of course, that it pales in comparison, but I live in Toronto, and three synagogues have been shot up in the last two Shabbats. The instinctual reaction has been offence along with complete omission of recognizing how communal support of the state/war puts its members at risk.

09.03.2026 16:59 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

But I do think it's important to break the communal fever of pro-Israelism, in which it's presumed that anything but support for the current regime is (internal) antisemitism.
There is a complete loss of the pragmatism of shtadlanus, which needs to be revived, as it does & has led to unsafety.

I agree with #3 (and am in consistent despair about the moral depravity of my community atm), but I was making a pragmatic point about trying to turn the tide in internal political dynamics.
I agree that the narcissism of that approach is ultimately problematic, but the self is always implicated...

In addition, the take is useful, as a form of advocacy: there is a lot of support for this idiotic war in the Jewish community, where there has been a complete loss of pragmatic thinking abt how geopolitics can affect us. It's important to revive that, to rein in Jewish/Israeli adventurism.

I think it makes sense specifically in the context of the publication - Peter Beinart's newsletter, in which Jewish politics in relation to Israel/Palestine is the main topic. If this cannot be discussed there, then it seems like there's no venue in which it is an appropriate topic?

I agree that we need increased unionization of the workforce and worker-ownership of firms, to ensure that wealth is more equitably distributed!

I may be off base, but I worry Hegseth and the rest of the psychopaths in the "DOW" are in actu more willing to contemplate or countenance use of disproportionate force. We already saw the MOB in Trump 1... what if they actually drop the Bomb? I may be paranoid, but it's not completely irrational

Pretty cool how the Jewish establishment has decided to line up behind a regime and its foreign adventures while seemingly being fine with being hung out to dry!

The WSJ's credulous framing maps precisely onto the President's characterization of the US war effort as too effective, in killing both the governing party and opposition leaders.
For both, efficiency (doing the most the quickest) is conflated with effectiveness (a cost-benefit analysis of outcomes)
