Either we vote with intelligence or we need to divest.
No taxes, no consumerism, no commerce, no work, no school, no capitalism.
Community pooling, funding and work to make sure your neighbor doesnt have to give in to meet needs.
We are not ready for that at all so the LEAST WE CAN DO IS VOTE

I mean if that’s what motivates you then I think you’ll do well with your stated goal. Good luck and enjoy running as it gets warmer as for me at least the burning lungs go away as it gets warmer.

It’s a good goal as long as you can find a way to enjoy running. I do recommend days where you run intervals as it will help to break up the monotony but if you like the monotony you will be surprised by how just staying consistent will allow you to run farther and faster.

I mean that seems like then the bill is kinda the compromise we want then correct? The link you provided doesn’t link to the article but if you have it I’ve been trying to understand the bill and better specifics.

I understand your idea though. I kinda agree but also if they can make transit better I am for it. I kinda agree with the push for more fare support as it makes the system more accountable but that accountability has also resulted in gutting the agency many times in the past.

I see your point that they should have raised fares first but I kinda feel like RTA is put in a lose lose situation a lot of the time. I feel like if they raised fares different people would yell at them that they should’ve gone to the state for more money.

I apologize the fares made up 20% of revenue. I think though my point still stands and I would agree that fares could increase but I think that it wouldn’t have that large of an impact on the budget

Also a link to the budget from 2024 the fares for the whole RTA only made up 15% of the revenue. Even increasing fares across the board with no ridership loss wouldn’t cover the $770 million hole

I believe the RTA asked for a homogenized funding in their ask to the state and that could help with some of the costs but the fact remains that metra pace and CTA have to cover a pretty large area with a relatively low amount of funding.

I mean I agree that CTA could at least bring its fares back up to pre pandemic levels but I think sharing revenue won’t really fix the problem that the whole Chicagoland transit system doesn’t have enough money period and the system very restricted in how it’s allowed to use its money. 1/

Also there was a bill passed I belive a few days ago that was basically here’s the plan but no money bill which included a stipulation by representatives to not increase fares

Well increasing fares would help a bit most politicians aren’t a fan of that option and the revenue from the system would barley make a dent in the $770 million deficit and would contribute to lowering ridership on a system that needs ridership growth.

I mean here is the rta budget from 2024. Well CTA accounts for 51% of the expenses for the rta it accounts for 84% of the ridership. The fares coming from cta make up a larger proportion of the revenue from the system as well. CTAs revenue makes up 63% of the RTAs operating revenue 1/

I recommend Reggie’s if you want a cool bar to go to. If you aren’t much for drinking I recommend Phil’s pizza for tavern style pizza or Pequods for Chicago style pizza. Those are the kinda touristy things I can think of that aren’t downtown and a bit less extra.

Different lacing patterns for lacing your shoes depending on the type of foot you have.
If you have the shoes and can’t get rid of them and would like to get use out of them without making your Achilles worse use the top left lacing pattern to keep the shoe from screwing up your Achilles.

Sometimes you can’t even afford that which sucks but it was a technique I used when I ran to stay in shape but couldn’t afford good running shoes.

For people who are struggling a suggestion I have for getting good shoes on the cheap is try to find a good running shoe that you like (go to dicks and try on running shoes) then find the an older version of the exact brand and model. Usually the shoes are exactly the same but maybe a bit heavier.

I also don’t drive and often use the transit app if it’s available in your city. I usually won’t trust the bus to show up unless it gives me a wifi symbol that says it’s showing up. But also I sympathize with busses that don’t show up.

Hopefully that helps a little as to what you are asking. Generally congestion pricing is very controversial to implement but once it’s in place it’s pretty popular as most people don’t like paying for something they used to get for free but once implemented the reduction in traffic is appreciated.

The idea behind congestion pricing is that especially in New York where there are many options to get into lower manhattan that aren’t driving the toll will reduce traffic. So far it has been a success in that travel times have decreased quite a bit and those people have moved towards transit.

2/ The toll during “peak hours” (5am to 9pm weekdays and 9a to 9p weekends) is $9 which is planned to be phased up to $15 by 2031. During off peak the toll is $2.25.

I guess what is it that you don’t understand? So the way it works is that you have a toll to enter (for NYC) anywhere south of 60th street in manhattan. The toll is taken by plate or ez pass (again specific to manhattans version). (1/

As someone not living in New York but who would like congestion pricing added to my city. Why do you think it is a scam? It seems to be having its intended effect of reducing traffic and the money is going towards improving the various transit options.

This is also why I would like it as it would speed up the Milwaukee bus. I feel like people would be more on board too if you allowed deliveries in some of the spots that no longer serve to park cars.

What would you say is a good way to get the people on board with the tunnel? I guess this is part of a larger question of how do we get Chicago to make transit something the city and suburbs as a whole want.
