Chronic pain remains a major challengeβdespite scientific progress, many patients still face delays, stigma, and limited options. I shared thoughts with @newsweek.com on why scientific advances havenβt always translated into better care.

What do you see when you stare at this grid of line segments: a series of rectangles, or a series of circles?
The way you perceive this optical illusion may tie back to the visual environment that surrounds you, a recent preprint suggests. scim.ag/4kTxbmd
You bet. @robgereau.bsky.social giving an overview of the amazingly rapid process of developing these HEAL pain research recommendations, including a nod to our colleagues at the OPPP now gone from NIH. Also describing 5 core principles to be considered in all #painresearch

This photograph shows a female standard fancy ratβa domesticated variant for the pet trade. That rats make good pets is not surprising when considering the long history of their close associations with humans. Although brown and black "wild" rats do spread some infectious diseases, we have recently learned about more-positive attributes, including quite how adept, adaptable, and even fun-loving they are.
A special issue of Science explores the complex and close associations rats share with humansβfrom their ubiquity in the human environment to their crucial role as biomedical models.
