Nobody has ever been so lyrically yet thoroughly excoriated as in this piece. And yet, few people have ever deserved such a complete dismantling as the Prince formerly known as Andrew

Video appears to show U.S. cruise missile striking Iranian school compound The seven-second video was released by Iranian state media and directly contradicts statements made by President Trump, who said Iran was responsible for the strike.

The Iranian girls’ school was hit by a US tomahawk cruise missile. NPR has confirmed the footage.

Quote from the FT: Italy’s industry minister Adolfo Urso has called for the immediate suspension of the EU’s carbon emissions trading system to help cut soaring energy prices.

β€œThe suspension of the ETS [European trading system] should be considered precisely as an emergency response to the conflict, pending a more thorough revision of the system,” Urso told an Italian newspaper.

The ETS requires polluting industries to purchase permits for their carbon emissions. Urso had called for its suspension before the war erupted, but said the issue was more urgent now because of the current surge in energy prices. Scrapping the system, he said, would cut the cost of Italy’s gas-reliant electricity production by €25-€30 per megawatt hour.

Quite noteworthy that the same people who years fighting the energy transition are now demanding quick dismantling of climate laws in response to the US/Israel-Iran war-made energy crisis.

How much better would we be prepared in Europe if we had more forcefully transitioned to headpumps and EVs?

So much of why Rachel Reeves has not been a good Chancellor is an unwillingness to accept that she has not come into office after a Conservative government that ran the economy really well but the public realm has gone to seed, and she actually does need a genuine growth strategy.

In order to topple a dictatorship from the inside you need armed defections from a sizeable chunk of the military and that is unlikely to happen if you keep airstriking their most ambitious colonels

The Gulf states & Israel depend on water desalination to live. If Israel & US break the taboo of bombing vulnerable desal infrastructure, they risk catastrophic harm.

Percent of drinking water from desal:
Israel: 80%
Kuwait: 90%
Saudi Arabia: 70%
Oman: 86%
UAW: 42%

Iran's parliament speaker said Saturday that the attack on a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island was carried out with support from one of the airbases in a southern neighboring country.
He did not name the country. "The crime will receive a proportionate response," he said.

The US doesn’t seem to understand how many targets there are for Iran in the Gulf.

Attacking the desalination plant in Iran is monstrous in itself as so many people depend on them, but it also opens up the way for Iran to target the Gulf’s desalination plants, which would also be monstrous

As was the case with Survation and YouGov, when pressed on what actions the UK should/should have taken, the positions which Badenoch, Farage and seemingly many of the papers have taken is a deeply unpopular one.

I struggle to see how their positions get any better as this war drags out.

Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage want Britain to blindly follow Trump into this illegal war, even though the President has no plan for what comes next.

There is nothing patriotic about outsourcing Britain’s foreign policy to Donald Trump.

Most Americans do not support this war. The vice president, the presumptive frontrunner for the governing party, does not support this war. The opposition party, with a handful of exceptions, does not. Even before β€œthe vast majority of British voters oppose it”, reasons to steer clear.
