It turns out that the basics of a promise queue are fun
rivea0.github.io/blog/promise...
- the puzzles are mostly about scaling (this is the case when you wrote a "quick" nested loop, but with that logic, there'd need to be 12 nested loops for part 2...)
- pay attention to the input (`split_whitespace` is not always going to save you)
- stop using `unwrap()` everywhere
- etc.

Okay, so mostly due to a terrible cold, I couldn't catch up with #AdventOfCode this year and wrote some very horrifying Rust code but have been taking some chaotic notes:
- remainder and mod are not the same, also `rem_euclid` is very nice
- understand the problem correctly (applies everywhere)

Excited to find out if #AdventOfCode being only 12 days this year will make me more likely to complete it this time.
Tarçın the cat, very close to the camera, captured mid-meow with his mouth open.
Tarçın, our friendly neighborhood cat, won't let you go until you pet him once, and then he immediately runs off to new adventures.

Had an amazing time last week at the #ffconf2025 and exploring (very sunny) Brighton!
Wondering how using AI coding tools impacts how we learn technical skills? Good news:
@rivea0.bsky.social and I are giving a talk about this at @ffconf.org in Brighton on the Nov 14th! There's still a few tickets left if you've been meaning to come along and say hello!
Heya, who else is going to @ffconf.org in Brighton this year? Friday 14th Nov 2025.ffconf.org
ffconf is my annual reminder that there are humans out there in the tech industry who actually care about other humans. Always a pleasure to attend. 😍💛
Hope to meet folks there.
The last point is especially a huge problem because this is not a good long-term planning strategy (where will the seniors of the next generation come from?), but then again, long-term planning has never been a strength of the industry.
- The software industry is "shooting itself in the foot" by not investing in junior talent
(3/3)
- AI generates much worse code when asked to write in less popular languages, obviously because there's less training data
- "Vibe coders" of course, don't pay attention to the language that the program is written in; what they mostly care about is the output
(2/3)
So, I joined IEEE Spectrum's "Will AI End Distinct Programming Languages?" livestream yesterday. Several takeaways:
- The number of questions asked on Stack Exchange is dropping because people prefer to use AI chatbots instead, so there's less public discussion
(1/3)
Super excited and looking forward to this!
So excited to be speaking with @rivea0.bsky.social at @ffconf.org on Nov 14th about the skills impact of AI coding tools on us as individuals, on our teams and in our industry.
It would be so lovely to see some of you there!
