Removing the hepatitis B vaccine birth dose recommendation because cases are low is like canceling your car insurance because you havenβt crashed today.
Removing the hepatitis B vaccine birth dose recommendation because cases are low is like canceling your car insurance because you havenβt crashed today.
Vaccinating babies against hepatitis B is a simple recommendation that saves livesβone based on solid science, & that has led to a dramatic drop in preventable infections and deaths.
Ending this recommendation will cost lives. RFK Jr. must answer to Congress.
Had a great time at #TLM2025 this year! #liversky
Etsy has a lot of leather options!

An important message on naltrexone in patients with liver disease:
β
Naltrexone can help reduce alcohol use without harming the liver.
π«Alcohol DOES harm the liver.
We do not need any more barriers to treat patients with AUDβALD!

Had a great experience presenting my senior talk as a GI fellow at Grand Rounds this morning talking about my passion of Quality Improvement in Hepatology
Itβs a gorgeous day in San Diego for #DDW #DDW2025
One of many ongoing attacks on public health. Very disheartening to see

Happy #matchday to all the medical students! Whether or not you got your top choice you all deserve a great celebration! #medsky
Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world.
Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
Struggled last night with a bit of research coding and finally got it right. The feeling is elation! (Until the next bit humbles me no doubt)
98% of NIH grants that should have gone out this month, didn't. Despite court orders 'unfreezing' the funds, they are frozen. Biomedical research will grind to a halt. Clinical trials will end. All for no reason: the total impact on the US budget is miniscule
Fellows and faculty of Columbia GI at the NYSGE annual business dinner
This week had a lovely time at #NYSGE with the Columbia crew. Celebrated outgoing president Dr Poneros. #GISky #gastrosky
Excited for todayβs Columbia Liver Summit on HCC Management! #LiverSky
Canβt wait to read!
We had a lively discussion on this! Most arenβt but some were very for and others quite against. Caveat of if have diabetes probably better managed with endocrine.
Fascinating GI grand rounds at Columbia on GLP1s. My take away - growing evidence of benefits in multiple areas, scarce significant side effects mostly GI, data on endoscopy/gastric emptying is limited, and no data yet accounts for rise in use via compound pharmacies. #GIsky #liversky
Not long after my post for the #LiverFellowNetwork on machine perfusion, this meta-analysis comes out showing promise for use of HOPE/dual-HOPE. #LiverSky journals.lww.com/lt/pages/art...
The story behind RFK Jr. in Samoa's measles crisis has never been reported. He wasn't there to spread misinformation about vaccines (though he did). He wanted to study a "natural experiment" of unvaccinated kids.
βI canβt imagine anything less ethical or more cruel.β

AP Headline: "Climate Hereβs what the Paris climate agreement does and doesnβt do"
This is an excellent, in-depth article on what leaving the Paris Climate agreement means for the US by @borenbears.bsky.social
One conclusion: "Several experts say the US will lose out on a trillion dollar plus renewable energy boom, leaving other countries like China to rule the green economy."
Dr Aneke-Nash standing next to a screen with her title slide on endobariatrics
Very excited to learn from the brilliant Dr Aneke-Nash with her grand rounds on endobariatrics.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.
Iβm not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or βpauseβ in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
