The gut microbiome is associated with GCs in capuchins and other platyrrhines, but I don’t know how this translates to bowel movements. Any sampling medium has its drawbacks, so we reduced any potential biases by including individual monkey ID as a random effect in our models.

Capuchins adapt to changes in the environment easily. For example, they access water in the dry season by eating the shoots of certain plants. In our study, the length of the drought likely made these plants and other secondary sources of water less abundant than other years.

These are some great questions! I addressed them individually below

GCs are linked to water balance/dehydration in humans and other animals. But this hasn't been closely looked at in capuchins. In wild animals it's difficult to disentangle the effects of low water availability from those of low food availability and high temperatures.

Hey #WildlifeDisease & #conservation folk, please check out our survey on attitudes to parasite conservation.

Are parasites important for biodiversity, would you remove them to protect host welfare, or something more nuanced? We want to hear all views to improve guidance for practitioners πŸͺ±πŸ§ͺ🌍🧡1/n

Per an NIH source:

β€œDiscussions with colleagues have suggested that if the universities all come together and raise hell about the delays to funding caused by not holding meetings, that might move the needle. From every state. There are well-funded universities in red states that will be impacted.”

Opinion: Biological Science Rejects the Sex Binary, and That’s Good for Humanity Science answers the question β€œis sex binary” by revealing that there are diverse ways of being male, female, or both.

This quote by @anthrofuentes.bsky.social resonates deeply:

β€œGrowing up human means growing up in a world of varying gender expectations, body types, reproductive options, family structures, and sexual orientations.”

Let's embrace and embody this beautiful #diversity! #BeYou #LGBTQIAPlus

Stress responsiveness in a wild primate predicts survival across an extreme El NiΓ±o drought White-faced capuchins with a stronger stress response to previous droughts were more likely to survive a severe El NiΓ±o drought.

After 9 years in the making, it's finally out (!) White-faced capuchins with a stronger stress response to previous droughts were more likely to survive a severe El NiΓ±o drought. Kudos to the heroic efforts of first authors Sofia Carrera and Irene Godoy. www.science.org/doi/epdf/10....
