I hope you enjoy this labour of love and that it is productive in some way in your work. Your comments or even a review somewhere would be much appreciated.
I am teaching Abu Salama al-Samarqandiβs Jumal usul al-din for a second time! This is an introduction to early Samarqandi Maturidi theology and an access point for a future multi-part course on al-Maturidiβs own Kitab al-tawhid. Further details/sign up: forms.gle/L12W7nvAXkcw...
New arrival. Hussein Abdulsaterβs major new book. Al-Jahiz as a theologian and social empiricist, and how that alters received 3/9th century intellectual history. It was a pleasure to edit this masterful work. edinburghuniversitypress.com/series-edinb...

Based on IHUPβs past pattern, it should be up on there in 1-2 weeks (I hope). And on Amazon at some point thereafter. I donβt have a copy yet!
Thanks Phil! Itβs nice to finally be able to share this publicly, and it will be even better when people can get their hands on it - hopefully soon.
For those who havenβt heard, Iβm happy to say Iβve edited, annotated and introduced the first scholarly English version of Kitab al-tawhid, translated by Tahir UluΓ§. Our edition not only makes al-Maturidiβs theology accessible but allows his book to take its place as a classic of world literature.
I'm teaching my book Transcendent God, Rational World: A Maturidi Theology for the first time online from 20th April. Covering a chapter a week, this course is for both new readers looking for a guide and anyone interested in discussing my ideas. Details and sign up: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

My survey of "medieval" Islamic theology (history and themes) has been published by Routledge. Good for beginners, yet of interest to scholars too, and great for reading lists. The resource is not very accessible, so here you go: ramonharvey.com/wp-content/u...
Calling scholars! Abstract submissions for Proofs of Godβs Existence in Islamic Thought, a global online conference hosted @ Cambridge Muslim College by myself and Shoaib Malik close at the end of this month. Further details and submission form are here: cambridgemuslimcollege.ac.uk/research/existβ¦
A new arrival from Suheil Laher. The definitive treatment of the origins and development across disciplines of tawatur (mass transmission). A great achievement! Further details: edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-tawatur-iβ¦
I am pleased to announce that I have been promoted to Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at Cambridge Muslim College. I am grateful for all the support of my scholarship that has made this milestone possible.

I recently appeared on Blogging Theology to discuss my book Transcendent God, Rational World, the Maturidi kalam tradition, as well as Islamic theology and philosophy more broadly. Check it out. youtu.be/I2Znv-1YwAs?...
If youβre interested in Islamic theology, make sure to follow @ramonharvey.bsky.social - I canβt recommend his work too highly, especially his most recent book, which is open access here:

I don't know. Maybe a habit connected with Twitter censoring reference to Bluesky.
Trying this site out again based on rumours that it is increasingly better for academics than the other. Most of my teaching and research at the moment is on Islamic theology (esp. Maturidism), especially in dialogue with analytic and phenomenological philosophy. Would be nice to connect/reconnect.
Congratulations to I-Wen Su from National Chengchi University in Taiwan. She has successfully contracted her monograph on the formation of early Sunni identity and the idea of the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs with Edinburgh Studies in Islamic Scripture and Theology at Edinburgh University Press!
It does not follow from us contingently existing and God necessarily existing that we do not truly exist. We exist in a state of dependency on God, and at a location in space and time. These aspects of contingency are negated from God in His necessary and timeless existence.
Thereβs a kind of online Islamic theology account. Usually completely or semi-anon. Probably madrasa education or equivalent. Competent to excellent Arabic. Can argue the best school opinion from a dozen texts but struggles to make a historical or contemporary argument. Interesting phenomenon.
