Good reason to go to NYC for Yo La Tengos hannukah run.

Same - saw many of various bands in the early 2000s but nothing since GD50. Listening to all of soldier field sing along really solidified how the songbook is deeply meaningful to so many and should live on. There’s a Philly Gen Z dead cover band and it’s fun to see the next generation embrace it.

For my IMD kids, ED boarding has led to so many errors - ammonias left out for hours at room temp, IV fluids being turned off without notification. It’s not just the unvaccinated who will time - it increases the risk for every kid.

Potential for system collapse is a huge part of the downstream impact of this travesty and has gone completely unaddressed. Babies don’t get admitted for rota anymore and the beds don’t exist for this to happen again. Every kid admitted for a VPD leads to another kid waiting or boarding in the ED.

The likeness is so good. I have read all of the recent divorce memoirs, so not sure what that says about me.

I planned our NYE day around going to world spa in the outer reaches of Brooklyn so I would have 2 hrs on uninterrupted subway reading time + hot tub reading time for Vol II. I just love the whole vibe.

Now I’m just imaging pairing a discussion of On the Calculation of Volume with all of the shows that happened on 11/18 and deciding which year we would want to be stuck in.

Loved The Great Night. Really special book. Similar vibes: Loot by Tania James; the Square of Sevens by Laura Shepherd Robinson; The History of Sound by Ben Shattuck; Utopia avenue by David Mitchell. Everything is tuberculosis was a strong, succinct argument for what is going wrong in medicine.

Love to see lies and sorcery on this list. That setting of that book is so well described and so unique.

The bigger sound worked really well but it didn’t leave any room for changing dynamics which is something I think they really excel at (see the river from last years Philly show)

It didn’t help that we came straight from SPAC. Apparently that was the right number of reprises to make the dripping tap feel tame.

Not the exact fit but Sarah Schulmans “let the record show” is a good history of Act Up and AIDS grassroots activism.

They are both deeply unserious and very serious simultaneously. Perfect band.
