Gaps in our public health system make life even harder for families living in poverty. When care is unaffordable or delayed, it affects parents’ ability to work and care for their kids. That’s why one of our new areas of focus is Health Equity.
This Invisible Disability Awareness Week, we're amplifying parents' voices. As one CFE member shared: “Finding work I can sustain with my disabilities has been the biggest challenge.” Too many must choose between their health and supporting their families.
Invisible disabilities—like chronic pain or mental illness—make it harder for parents to access stable work and housing in systems not built for them. Many of our BC members live with these challenges and lead our work for disability justice.
In 1929, women were finally recognized as “persons” in Canada—but many, including Indigenous and racialized women, were excluded. Equity is still a fight. At CFE, we work to ensure all parents and caregivers, of all genders, have the rights and supports to thrive.
