The US stock market is heavily consolidated to a few companies that all need TSMC chips so max economic pain could be inflicted.
I hope this doesn't occur but its pretty obvious they have played the long game to at least have taking Taiwan as a real option either this year or next.
Those are my same reservations.
China has built up there own semiconductor manufacturing considerably over the last few years albeit they are still behind TSMC and Intel. They have also pushed for things like DeepSeek to use commodity chips that they could produce at SMIC.
There is another angle to look at this and that is China invading Taiwan. China has been selling off US bonds for the last 4-5 years. They have very little US debt now. This war looks like a really good time to attack Taiwan. I hope I am wrong but too many things are lining up.
