If I were going to reboot a show it would be Space Above and Beyond.

It was a show before its time. And I think a show that centers on what happens when genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and space colonization goes wrong is especially right for the moment.

Current NIH leadership want you to think they are using rigorous, consistent & scientific processes to screen studies to align them with agency priorities.

But the process that they have put down on paper is a sham.

It’s important to know NIH is not following its own guidance. Here’s why:

One of our PhD students and a treasured member of our research community tragically passed away recently. Her gofundme is important not only for raising funds for her funeral and medical expenses, but for sharing her accomplishments and the light that she spread everywhere she went.

A dark blue mug with an American flag reads β€œAMERICA 1776 – 2026”

Fairly sure it’s unintentional, but the end date on this mug being sold by the Smithsonian does make it sound a little like they’re saying America dies in 2026…

Key point: The losses are so large bc the economic benefits of universities to their communities and our country are so great.

That's why possible NIH budget cuts--expertly visualized by SciMAP--are so damaging. Check out their maps ‡️

I cannot keep posting about this silly New England athletic association. Just assume that Harvard is flipflopping, Penn & Columbia are sacrificing students, Dartmouth is pretending neutrality exists during an authoritarian takeover, and the rest are trying to keep theirs heads above water.

Email reading: "Hello Alison,

I’m a CEO coach and a former contributing editor to the then-most widely circulated publication to the small business community in New York City, The New York Enterprise Report. I’m pretty active on LinkedIn, and frequently repost compelling, well-written articles I find online. I found your July 7th article, Should I Let an Employee Resign Rather Than Firing Them? compelling, but elected not to repost it.

Why?

Because while otherwise well-written, it is replete with the use of third-person pronouns with a first-person subject (including right in the title) whenever the employee is referred to
(curiously there is agreement whenever Mark is referred to). And being the stickler for grammar that I am, I just couldn’t let that pass.

Indeed, in the same paragraph, we see both: β€œthis employee is facing consequencesβ€”their job didn’t work out and they’re leaving it…” (it’s one single employee; they use of β€œtheir” and β€œthey” suggests one or more employees are now involved)β€¦β€œMark’s desire for more consequences than that, when the problem has already been solved, comes across like he wants to twist the knife just on principle…”

I’d really like to post this, Alison, and will if the third-party pronouns are changed to be second-party."

Confronting the Rainbow Panic The erasure of LGBTQ+ stories from the National Park Service and other government websites has a long history.

Earlier this year, @wendylrouse.bsky.social was one of the first to sound the alarm about federal censorship of historical work. Today at #AHAPerspectives, she writes about what happened with her own article on the NPS website and the longer history of LGBTQ+ erasure. πŸ—ƒοΈ
