That's funny, I could have sworn he said something about not needing Royal Navy vessels because the war was already won.
You broke it Don, you fix it.

Alright folks, it's a new week. We only get so many to chew over. The mist will clear, & somewhere out there, beyond the fog, a fresh spring is waiting to come through.
The years Kale is coming through on the shore ππ₯¬ #WildflowerHour
Puffins from the Shiant Isles are having a tough winter of it with an almost unprecedented 'wreck' on European coasts.
One of the interesting things to note at present is the concentration of Gulls on the high water spring strandline, where seaweed has been deposited by the higher tides. In time, the whole island will take on a similar scene of Gulls & seaweed π
One year ago, the surface of both lagoon islands was raised & capped with new shingle in different grades (thanks to #LIFEontheEdge & the #SolentSeascape). So far, vegetation colonisation has been limited to a gorgeous balance of tufted growth & open shingle, perfect for nesting Gulls & Terns.
Years should be twice as long :)
This is the 14th year I've been able to watch spring come to the West Hayling lagoons, and I can honestly say, thanks to a number of coalescing efforts over recent years, the site is looking better than ever, with a growing potential for the future. 3/
The first Black-headed Gulls have clocked their nest sites, & seaweed, twigs & clumps of Spartina will be flown in over the coming weeks & months to decorate the lagoon islands in a metropolis of nests.
With a few days of sun & warmth this week βοΈ, the seabird breeding season briefly turned up to 11 on the south coast. At the West Hayling lagoons, Mediterranean Gulls continue ro build in numbers & perform courtship, whilst Black-headed Gulls select territories 1/ #SuperSeabirdSunday
Ancient oysters, & hope for their return to the living mass they once were π
To Selsey Bill, & the easternmost edge of the Solent today π
there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).
the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.
Itβs hard to properly convey the lunacy of these proposals to people outside aerospace.
Reflect wants to put gigantic mirrors in orbit and beam down sunlight at nighttime.
SpaceX wants a million more starlink sats.
If either of these actually happens, space will be unusable.
The FCC has opened public comments for a couple of different proposed satellite systems, both of which have a high likelihood of significantly degrading our ability to experience the night sky. More details from @aas.org here: π§ͺ
A US submarine sinking a lonely, dinky Iranian surface ship an ocean away from the theater of the main conflictβand 9000
miles from North Americaβmakes it pretty clear the US is fighting a general war, without the declaration required by the Constitution. www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...
All other thoughts on the most recent conflict aside, the torpedoing of a ship in international waters without any obvious reasoning to do so for fleet defence, by a far superior force, is a step toward chaos.

It's that time again when a few of the Black-headed Gulls in breeding plumage look just a little bit pink - believed to be linked to secretions from the preen gland, which the birds spread over their feathers and/or diet!

Welcome to Super Seabird Sunday where we ask you to share photos, videos & artwork of seabirds to brighten up timelines. Here is a European Shag filmed yesterday on Isle of May in summer plumage #SuperSeabirdSunday
With February coming to a close, the sound of Mediterranean Gulls is a regular one over the eastern Solent harbours. At West Hayling, courtship has begun & will continue until they move on in the Spring.
